T-shirts, tops, dresses and shorts sold by Adidas, H&amp;M, Nike, Shein and Zara were tested.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The study is the first to compare brands for microplastic pollution, Changing Markets believes. The brand\u2019s recycled polyester shed over 30,000 fibres per gram of sample clothing on average, nearly four times H&amp;M\u2019s average and over seven times Zara\u2019s average.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Shein clothing also stood out. Its recycled polyester garments shed microplastics at around the same rate as its virgin polyester clothing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Overproduction<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Even before today\u2019s findings, environmentalists concluded that fashion\u2019s recycled polyester drive is largely greenwash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Polyester clothes recycling systems are seen as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fthe-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com\/2njUepCtXDAfNWZeh-smXuKIetCaV3zrAfDwEZXoJMHr7dYjpmgFPLT4h3iaBeVgGgF85Wbu25MF-q9V1YF4ktiAKkGF1D8uqEtdvXk7wL7L9zxsdax0mtz-BLr7hum13QyBhLLaZkz9C3b3DY8Q41CpCnl9U2DvxN6s2KHUm8StBt1ZWpm8I7G7HxvSFpyIOWKGvj_itHWxMxPs9-rH1i2HFkqrxaM7_5gYCVLer6mVKnFCdLkIZCs294JG5Ow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/fthe-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com\/2njUepCtXDAfNWZeh-smXuKIetCaV3zrAfDwEZXoJMHr7dYjpmgFPLT4h3iaBeVgGgF85Wbu25MF-q9V1YF4ktiAKkGF1D8uqEtdvXk7wL7L9zxsdax0mtz-BLr7hum13QyBhLLaZkz9C3b3DY8Q41CpCnl9U2DvxN6s2KHUm8StBt1ZWpm8I7G7HxvSFpyIOWKGvj_itHWxMxPs9-rH1i2HFkqrxaM7_5gYCVLer6mVKnFCdLkIZCs294JG5Ow\">important<\/a>\u201d but also \u201cin development\u201d and only able to process \u201caround two per cent of all recycled polyester\u201d.
