Period drama The Spanish Princess has landed itself a new streaming home in the UK and is now available to watch for free without a subscription. Previously only available on MGM+ (where it still is), all 16 episodes are now available to watch on Channel 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Based on Philippa Gregory’s novels and following on from the shows The White Queen and The White Princess, the show follows Catherine of Aragon as she travels from Spain to England and becomes the first wife of Henry VIII.<\/p>\n

It stars Endeavour’s Charlotte Hope, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’s Ruair\u00ed O’Connor, Broadchurch’s Andrew Buchan, Call the Midwife’s Olly Rix, and The Chronicles of Narnia’s Georgie Henley, to name just a few cast members.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, Shameless’ Emma Frost and Life on Mars’ Matthew Graham developed the show and served as its executive producers.<\/p>\n

The show initially ran on American network Stars across 2019 and 2020. The plan was always to end it after two seasons, rather than it being cancelled.<\/p>\n

The Spanish Princess garnered a mild amount of attention during its run, with 12 critic reviews collected on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> for season 1 and only three for season 2.<\/p>\n

75% of the season 1 reviews are positive, while two of the three are positive for season 2.<\/p>\n

Decider<\/a> wrote: “The Spanish Princess isn’t high art, but it is a high-spirited romance dripping in elegance. Intoxicating, ravishing, and fun, it’s a welcome escape trimmed with gold.”<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> called it the “ideal period soap”, while Refinery29<\/a> dubbed it “sexy” and “spellbinding”.<\/p>\n

Paste Magazine<\/a> was full of praise for its lead star, stating that Hope “carries this series on her petite shoulders”.<\/p>\n

The Spanish Princess is available to stream on Channel 4 or MGM+.<\/p>\n
