Teyana Taylor<\/a> is opening up about the experience of making One Battle After Another. In a conversation from Variety and CNN\u2019s Actors on Actors series<\/a>, Taylor talked with Frankenstein\u2019s Oscar Isaac about how the music industry had become stifling for her.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI had just retired [from] music and was like, \u2018I want to pour into everything else that I love. I don\u2019t want to be stuck in one box,\u2019\u201d she explains. \u201cEverybody [said], \u2018We don\u2019t think that\u2019s smart.\u2019 When I took that leap of faith, I was so scared, but I knew I had to walk on this faith journey. Not even a month after I retired from music, this role comes across my desk \u2014 that\u2019s nothing but God. I knew I had a point to prove; I had work to do.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI did. I thought I was closing the door for good, and I was OK with that. I wasn\u2019t going to allow people to back me into a corner. I usually let people do that \u2014 it\u2019ll be me against the whole room.\u201d<\/p>\n Taylor co-stars as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s comedy action thriller One Battle After Another, alongside an all-star cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Chase Infiniti.\u00a0<\/p>\n She talked about the experience making the film with Anderson and DiCaprio.<\/p>\n \u201cMe and Leo were already buddies for a long time, but we never worked together before. I don\u2019t bring the personal into set,\u201d she reveals. \u201cThis is not like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s my homie.\u2019 This is still Leonardo DiCaprio and I\u2019m still just little old me. So I\u2019m nervous. But how he mentors, it doesn\u2019t feel like one is above the other; he meets me where I\u2019m at.
