{"id":189310,"date":"2025-12-18T02:56:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T02:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/189310\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T02:56:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T02:56:07","slug":"what-season-2-wouldve-been-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/189310\/","title":{"rendered":"What Season 2 Would&#8217;ve Been About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/boots-canceled-netflix-one-season-1236609600\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> recent cancellation<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/netflix\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a>\u2018s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/boots\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boots<\/a>\u201d after just one season struck a blow for representation, as a ground breaking coming-of-age queer drama series set in the Marine Corps. But it was also notable for another reason: \u201cBoots\u201d was the final show to be executive produced by TV legend <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/norman-lear\/\" id=\"auto-tag_norman-lear\" data-tag=\"norman-lear\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norman Lear<\/a>,\u00a0who had helped develop the project before his death in December 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/brent-miller\/\" id=\"auto-tag_brent-miller\" data-tag=\"brent-miller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent Miller<\/a>, who served as Lear\u2019s producing partner and ran his Act III Prods. shingle, shared his disappointment with Variety that \u201cBoots\u201d won\u2019t continue: \u201cBut I do feel so grateful that we were able to make the show \u2013 and I couldn\u2019t be more proud of the show we made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs for where \u201cBoots\u201d might have gone in Season 2, Miller added, \u201cOur creator, Andy Parker, had always intended to take the boys to war in a Season 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCreated by Parker, \u201cBoots\u201d was based on Greg Cope White\u2019s book \u201cThe Pink Marine.\u201d Miles Heizer starred as Cameron Cope, a disillusioned, closeted \u201890s teen who signs up for the Marine Corps with his best friend Ray McAffey, played by Liam Oh. Despite the unwelcoming environment (LGBTQ people were banned from the military at that time), the pair grow into themselves and form lifelong friendships with their fellow recruits as they navigate the social and physical hazards of boot camp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the Lear family, the news of the \u201cBoots\u201d cancellation has, of course, been overshadowed by the tragic deaths of Rob and Michelle Reiner. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTo be perfectly honest, it would be extremely difficult for Norman to focus on anything but the Reiners and their family at this time,\u201d Miller said.\u00a0\u201cHowever, had he heard the news of our cancellation prior to the Reiner tragedy, I\u2019m rather confident he would\u2019ve reacted with disappointment, but simultaneously sit in gratitude for having had the opportunity to make the show we made. He would\u2019ve been proud to know that the last show to bare his name was so meaningful to so many in the 196 countries Netflix serves. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAnd although he was aware that cancellations happen all of the time for various business decisions, he would empower myself, our fellow EPs and Sony to do everything humanly possible for our actors, writers and producers to try and find ourselves a new home,\u201d added Miller, who now runs <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/a-house-on-brame\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A House On Brame<\/a>\u00a0Productions. \u201cAnd of course, he would have encouraged the fans to make their voices be heard in the loudest ways possible to ensure a Season 2 \u2013 wherever, whenever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe timing of Lear\u2019s final production ending right when the Reiner news came to light was an unfortunate coincidence. Lear was good friends, of course, with Rob Reiner\u2019s father Carl Reiner, and later cast Rob Reiner in his breakout role on \u201cAll in the Family\u201d as Mike \u201cMeathead\u201d Stivic. Lear also helped Reiner in his role as a filmmaker, serving as a producer on Reiner\u2019s \u201cThe Princess Bride,\u201d something Lear was very proud of.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs the Lear family <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/rob-reiner-remembered-tributes-celebrities-stunned-1236608590\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote in a statement this week<\/a>, \u201cThe Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.\u00a0Norman often referred to Rob as a son, and their close relationship was extraordinary,\u00a0to us and the world.
