{"id":190173,"date":"2025-12-18T15:27:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T15:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/190173\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T15:27:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T15:27:35","slug":"king-charles-shares-cancer-recovery-milestone-in-tv-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/190173\/","title":{"rendered":"King Charles shares cancer recovery milestone in TV message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>      London<br \/>\n        \u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj2vpxks001c3b6n6rr71yup@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Britain\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/world\/europe\/prince-charles-fast-facts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">King Charles III<\/a> offered a rare update on his cancer journey in a video message on Friday evening, revealing that he has responded well to treatment and it will be reduced in the new year.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001s3b6ni1v69smx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Charles, 77, described the milestone in his recovery process as \u201ca personal blessing\u201d before hailing \u201cthe remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001t3b6nqtz4lkjm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cToday I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to \u2018doctor\u2019s orders,\u2019 my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year,\u201d the British monarch said in a pre-filmed clip for Channel 4\u2019s Stand Up To Cancer broadcast, which partners on its annual campaign with the charity Cancer Research UK.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001u3b6nsvk56kjs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Charles announced he had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/05\/europe\/king-charles-cancer-announcement-gbr-intl\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diagnosed with cancer<\/a> in February 2024 after undergoing a prostate procedure.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001v3b6n27qb3dug@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While his treatment is not over, a spokesperson for the King told CNN that \u201cHis Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001w3b6n871f71w9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The spokesperson added: \u201cThis position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritise his continued recovery.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001x3b6nvj5xtpsj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In his video message, which was filmed at his London residence of Clarence House in late November, Charles reflected on learning about his diagnosis. He said that he knows it \u201ccan feel overwhelming\u201d but that he also knows \u201cearly detection is the key that can transform treatment journeys, giving invaluable time to medical teams \u2013 and, to their patients, the precious gift of hope.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001y3b6n7zyber85@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He stressed the importance of cancer screening programs and encouraged people to make use of them to catch the disease quickly because \u201cearly diagnosis quite simply saves lives.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a001z3b6n8cbm2p8z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cToo often, I am told, people avoid screening because they imagine it may be frightening, embarrassing or uncomfortable. If and when they do finally take up their invitation, they are glad they took part,\u201d he explained, before highlighting a new national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standuptocancer.org.uk\/screening-checker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Screening Checker<\/a>, available online in the UK.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a00203b6nchkp1pci@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis simple tool allows you to check whether you are eligible for breast, bowel or cervical cancer screening. He has also been patron of Macmillan Cancer Support for almost three decades.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qb4p001q3b6nu0uvwsb5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He also sent a deeply personal message to a Buckingham Palace reception in April honoring the work of cancer charities, saying despite the fears that cancer can bring, it can illuminate the best of humanity.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj3a4aw6002j3b6nv5ueoc67@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Charles has been praised for his openness around his diagnosis and raising awareness around it. Caroline Geraghty, senior information nurse at Cancer Research UK, commended both Charles and his daughter-in-law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/01\/14\/uk\/kate-princess-of-wales-hospital-visit-intl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine, Princess of Wales, <\/a>for sharing their experiences with the disease.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj3blogy002v3b6n9eprxsp6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cHe\u2019s visited hospitals, he\u2019s seen patients, he\u2019s visited support centers. He really has kept in touch with people,\u201d she told CNN. \u201cI think he feels, and as do other people, that he\u2019s got something in common with them. I think them telling us this also highlights the fact that anyone can get cancer. It doesn\u2019t matter who you are.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a00263b6n9wrjz4d0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            King Charles has not publicly disclosed the type of cancer he has been receiving outpatient treatment for. A royal source told CNN last year that the form of cancer detected was not prostate cancer, but did not specify further.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a00273b6nprr4ole3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The spokesperson for the King told CNN on Friday that was because \u201cthe advice from cancer experts is that, in his determination to support the whole cancer community, it is preferable that His Majesty does not address his own specific condition but rather speaks to those affected by all forms of the disease.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a00283b6nq5vvqsym@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It\u2019s not yet clear how much longer Charles will require treatment; that would be a matter for his medical team to determine.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj39qc1a00293b6nagwgu6f9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Following his diagnosis last year, the King briefly stepped away from public facing duties, though he continued to carry out state business.
