{"id":190975,"date":"2025-12-19T02:08:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T02:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/190975\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T02:08:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T02:08:09","slug":"patterson-wealth-partners-founder-retakes-control-after-chance-voight-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/190975\/","title":{"rendered":"Patterson Wealth Partners founder retakes control after Chance Voight probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">These entities inlcuded:<\/p>\n<p>Chance Voight Investment Corporation Limited\u00a0Chance Voight Investment Partners Limited\u00a0CVI Securities Limited\u00a0CVI Financial Limited\u00a0CVI Partners Mortgage Fund Limited\u00a0CVI Partners Mortgage Income Fund Limited\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) said it wouldn\u2019t comment further due to court suppression orders and an FMA confidentiality order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">But it noted that in November 2025, a Chance Voight subsidiary took ownership of Patterson Wealth Partners Limited, a licensed financial advice provider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Companies Office records show the sole director of Chance Voight is Bernard Whimp, while the company has an extensive shareholding list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Whimp has a history of making \u201clow-ball\u201d offers to investors with small parcels of shares in listed companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">In 2011, the High Court ordered the cancellation of any agreements made to sell shares to Whimp after legal action from the FMA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">The court ordered shares transferred to Whimp to be returned and also made orders preventing him from making any further offers of this kind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Some of Whimp\u2019s unsolicited offers were at rates well below the market price.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Others were above the market price, although some investors did not realise the money would be paid out over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Many shareholders who received and accepted Whimp\u2019s offers were elderly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">The Chance Voight website no longer appears online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">In a statement about its interim appointment as liquidators, PwC said it was required to report to the Christchurch High Court by January 26, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cSubject to any material matters arising, a further update can be provided following this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Investors or creditors of the companies with questions on the interim liquidation process were urged to contact PwC New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Jamie Gray is an Auckland-based journalist, covering the financial markets, the primary sector and energy.
