Percy Jackson and the Olympians continues its weekly release schedule with the third episode, titled \u201cWe Board The Princess Andromeda.\u201d The third episode continues a trend, rather than proving the other episodes outliers, but manages to stand above last week\u2019s shaky start ever so slightly by smartly deviating from the source material. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, titled The Sea of Monsters, follows Percy (Walker Scobell) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) as they set out on a quest to stop Luke (Charlie Bushnell) from obtaining the golden fleece as well as rescuing Grover (Aryan Simhadri) from the cyclops Polythemus. This episode adapts the chapter \u201cWe Board The Princess Andromeda,\u201d and does so semi-faithfully. Probably for the better, as this is the best episode of the season so far.<\/p>\n

I always found this stretch of the book extremely boring, actionless in one location so there wasn\u2019t much wiggle room for story to improve itself immediately in that moment. The series changes it slightly and definitely for the better, having a room on this cruise ship that they use as like a base. What this episode does best is allow Tyson some actual room to become a cool character, rather than an awkward supporting character who doesn\u2019t do much supporting.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where this episode excels where the other two didn\u2019t. It takes its time to further develop its characters, and understands how to handle the stakes between them (see Annabeth\u2019s epiphany about Thalia and Luke). This episode does fumble in the end, leaving on a bit of an empty spot, ending in a spot that is far from engaging.<\/p>\n

The B-plot here isn\u2019t terrible either, but definitely could look better visually. Dior Goodjohn is solid as Clarisse and it\u2019s nice seeing Edge back as Ares, the god of war, but it does also feel like its only real purpose is fleshing out the episode\u2019s runtime.<\/p>\n
