Colin Jost was probably hoping these jokes were lost in translation during this year\u2019s Saturday Night Live joke swap.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old teamed up with Weekend Update cohost Michael Che for their yearly joke swap tradition, where the two write often NSFW punchlines for the other to read. And as usual, Scarlett Johansson<\/a> was caught in the crossfire.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew research shows that millions of women leave the work force due to menopause,\u201d Colin read from a cue card during the Dec. 20 episode of SNL, hosted by Ariana Grande<\/a>. \u201cWhich means there\u2019s only a couple years left on my gravy train.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unable to contain his laughter, the comedian continued as a photo of the Black Widow actress flashed on the screen, \u201cMy girl already be like, \u2018Colin, I\u2019m warm. Colin, I\u2019m sweating.\u2019 B—h, you having a hot flash.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the joke\u2014written by Michael\u2014went even further as Colin alluded to nabbing a younger woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut don\u2019t worry about me, I got a backup,\u201d he added as a picture of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in Netflix\u2019s Wednesday flashed on the screen. \u201cThey don\u2019t call Wednesday hump day for nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

But this isn\u2019t the first time that Michael has used the show\u2019s annual segment to stir the pot in Colin and Scarlett\u2019s marriage. Last year, Colin made a controversial crack at his wife\u2019s nether regions<\/a> as she looked on shocked from backstage.<\/p>\n

\u201cCostco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu,\u201d he said during the 2024 SNL episode. \u201cBut I ain\u2019t trippin\u2019. I\u2019ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

In perfect time, a camera then panned to the Avengers actress\u2014who shares son Cosmo<\/a>, 3, with Colin and is also a mom to daughter Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac\u2014as she stood visibly shocked by the joke, mouthing the words, “Oh my God!”<\/p>\n

“No, no, I’m just playin’, baby,” Colin continued, reading the joke from the cue cards and laughing. “You know I don’t go downtown.”<\/p>\n

Months later, Scarlett, 41, opened up about her visceral reaction<\/a> to the wisecrack.<\/p>\n

“I just can’t believe that they went there,” the Jurassic World star told InStyle<\/a> in an interview published March 11. “It was so vulgar. It was so gross. It was really gross. And, like, old-school gross.”<\/p>\n

And even Colin acknowledged that perhaps the joke went too far<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m in trouble I think with a lot of people,” he said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January. “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”<\/p>\n

“I was obviously surprised by everything,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut they gave her a heads up and they were like \u2018Hey would you be okay if Michael made kind of a little vagina joke at some point?\u2019 and she\u2019s like, \u2018Sure, whatever I\u2019m open to it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

And while he didn\u2019t know where the joke was headed, as he\u2019d read it for the first time live on air, he knew in the moment that it would raise eyebrows.<\/p>\n

As Colin explained, “The graphic came up for Arby\u2019s and so Scarlett is backstage like, \u2018Oh my god, that\u2019s what it is.'”<\/p>\n

“Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu,” Colin Jost began on Weekend Update, reading the lines Michael Che wrote for him for their joke swap, which they do not see in advance. “But I ain’t trippin’. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”<\/p>\n

Scarlett Johansson\u2014who shares son<\/a> Cosmo, 3, with Jost and is also a mom to daughter Rose, 10, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac\u2014was then shown backstage, watching her husband on a TV screen and mouthing the words, “Oh my God!”<\/p>\n

The actress’ husband continued, “No, no, I’m just playin’, baby. You know I don’t go downtown.”<\/p>\n

“You know, last time we did ‘joke swap,’ I made Colin do some tasteless jokes comparing your vagina to Costco roast beef,” Che told the actress. “Well, the fact is, I was just lashing out because I’m jealous. I’ve never even seen a human vagina.”<\/p>\n

Che then turned his attention to his costar. “And, Colin, I’m sorry, too, because I owe you everything,” he said. “When Colin discovered me, I was selling crack outside the Bronx Zoo. And now look at me, selling crack outside the American Girl doll store.”<\/p>\n
