Hibbert had been on the job for four months when he was injured while patrolling the Chanukah By the Beach event this month.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old was rushed to an ICU where he was intubated, underwent multiple surgeries and lost sight in one of his eyes.<\/p>\n
His family announced on Tuesday that Hibbert had been discharged after more than a week in hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile he is home, he is still recovering and will need space, support and continued positive thoughts during this time,\u201d his family said in a statement released to police.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a family, we couldn\u2019t ask for anything more \u2013 having our Jack home, especially for Christmas, truly feels like a miracle.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support, kind messages and well wishes from the community, Jack\u2019s colleagues, friends and the emergency services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Almost A$600,000 ($688,000) had been raised for Hibbert through an appeal on the NSW Police Legacy website.<\/p>\n
His family also thanked medical staff for their \u201ccare and dedication shown\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe kindly ask that our family\u2019s privacy be respected as we focus on Jack\u2019s recovery and spend this special time together,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you again for the compassion, love and support shown to our family.<\/p>\n
\u201cJacko you\u2019ve shown strength of a different degree, we are so glad you\u2019re home, buddy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dyson was also hospitalised after the terror incident. He had been attached to the Eastern Suburbs Command for 18 months when the attack unfolded.<\/p>\n
Naveed Akram, 24, has been charged over the attack, including with 15 counts of murder.<\/p>\n
His father Sajid Akram was killed by police at the scene.<\/p>\n
