State pensioners born after 1951 are set to get \u00a32,964 more from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP<\/a> ) in 2026. The state pension \u2013 paid to nearly 13 million people \u2013 will go up by 4.8 per cent.<\/p>\n

This adheres to the government\u2019s triple-lock guarantee, matching annual earnings growth. The state pension will rise by 4.8 per cent from next April in line with annual earnings growth, the government has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The state pension will rise from \u00a3230.25 a week to \u00a3241.05 (up \u00a310.80), a \u00a3500-plus rise, while the old state pension rises to \u00a3184.90 (up \u00a38.45). It means a \u00a357 difference between payments – or \u00a32,964.<\/p>\n

In a year, this will make the old state pension worth \u00a39,614.8, and the new state pension worth \u00a312,534.60. The new state pension is for men born after 1951, and women after 1953.<\/p>\n

Discussing the DWP system recently, Labour Party<\/a> Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: \u201cWe must also reform the welfare state itself \u2013 that is what renewal demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow \u2013 this is not about propping up a broken status quo. Nor is it because we want to look somehow politically \u2018tough\u2019. The Tories<\/a> played that game and the welfare bill went up by \u00a388bn.\u201d<\/p>\n

He will add: \u201cIf you\u2019re not given the support you need to overcome your mental health issues, or if you are simply written off because you\u2019re neurodivergent or disabled, then it can trap you in a cycle of worklessness and dependency for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n
