Photo \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">When it came to film, action titles dominated in-flight screens \u2013 as usual, the airline said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Gladiator II was Air NZ passengers\u2019 most-watched movie of 2025, with films like Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning (fifth most popular) and The Amateur (seventh) adding to the genre\u2019s prominence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Drama titles were the second most popular, bolstered mainly by viewership of Conclave, Juror #2 and It Ends With Us \u2013 the second, third and fourth most-popular flicks on board this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Kiwi content also found a strong audience, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/nz-film-tina-set-for-us-release-after-rialto-distribution-acquires-global-rights\/V43F2HBM7FGFVCGUZRLAL4WSEQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/entertainment\/nz-film-tina-set-for-us-release-after-rialto-distribution-acquires-global-rights\/V43F2HBM7FGFVCGUZRLAL4WSEQ\/\">home-grown film Tin\u0101<\/a> ranking among the airline\u2019s top 10 most-watched movies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Engagement with te reo M\u0101ori content continues to grow, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/air-new-zealand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/air-new-zealand\/\">Air New Zealand<\/a> rolling out te reo M\u0101ori dubs of major Disney films throughout the year, including Moana 2, The Lion King, Frozen, Encanto and Coco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Other films that made the top-10 threshold included Wicked (sixth most popular) and Joker: Folie \u00e0 Deux (ninth). <\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"Action movies dominated Air New Zealand's in-flight screens. Photo \/ 123rf<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">In television viewing, there was an embrace of the most popular contemporary shows and long-running sitcoms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Bluey unsurprisingly topped the list of favourites, having won over kids and parents, followed by Friends and Me &amp; Mickey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Young Sheldon and The White Lotus also proved popular hits, with CoComelon, The Big Bang Theory, The Pitt, The Penguin and Saturday Night Live rounding out the top-10 list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Together, the viewing and listening data shows passengers gravitating towards familiar stars, original storytelling and locally produced content (which the airline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/travel\/travel-news\/air-new-zealand-teams-up-with-parrotdog-to-launch-in-flight-beer-brewed-for-30000-feet\/GMY5S5CRR5HYFLJIIYZGQCWWIE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/travel\/travel-news\/air-new-zealand-teams-up-with-parrotdog-to-launch-in-flight-beer-brewed-for-30000-feet\/GMY5S5CRR5HYFLJIIYZGQCWWIE\/\">makes a conscious effort to deliver<\/a>) as they took to the skies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/air-new-zealand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/air-new-zealand\/\">Air New Zealand<\/a> is now in its busiest time of the year, with more than 2.7 million travellers flying with the airline in December and January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Among those, 1.1 million travellers are heading overseas during the two months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThree Australian cities are firm favourites with 195,000 customers travelling to and from Sydney, 185,000 to and from Melbourne, and 120,000 to and from Brisbane,\u201d Air New Zealand airports general manager Kate Boyer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAround 170,000 customers will be crossing the Pacific, with Tahiti and Fiji clear go-to getaways. <\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cFurther afield, Los Angeles sees 56,000 passengers connecting to and from New Zealand these holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Some domestic destinations also remained popular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cQueenstown will see 260,000 customers travel to and from the region while Nelson is gearing up for 150,000 customers, and Dunedin 110,000,\u201d Boyer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cNapier and the Bay of Plenty are also in hot demand this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"vUWuwjCGukMuO\" style=\"display:none\">Tom Rose is an Auckland-based journalist who covers breaking news, specialising in lifestyle, entertainment and travel.
