{"id":205956,"date":"2025-12-29T01:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T01:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/205956\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T01:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T01:28:10","slug":"former-black-cap-doug-bracewell-retires-from-cricket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/205956\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Black Cap Doug Bracewell retires from cricket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">Former Black Caps Doug Bracewell has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, ending an 18-year career that saw him become one of New Zealand&#8217;s most reliable allrounders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The 35-year-old debuted for Central Districts as an 18-year-old in 2008, having already represented New Zealand at Under-19 level. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Just three years later, he broke into the Black Caps, making his ODI, T20, and Test debuts during the 2011\/12 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Bracewell\u2019s defining moment came in only his third Test, against Australia in Hobart in 2011. His stunning 6-40 in the final innings secured a famous seven-run victory \u2014 New Zealand\u2019s first Test win over Australia in 26 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Across his international career, Bracewell played 28 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is, while also featuring in England\u2019s County Championship, the IPL with Delhi Daredevils, and South Africa\u2019s Joburg Super Kings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">He became a cornerstone for Central Districts, amassing 3029 runs and 258 wickets. (Source: Photosport)<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Central Districts Cricket chief executive Lance Hamilton praised Bracewell\u2019s loyalty and resilience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;Doug\u2019s playing record will speak for itself for decades to come,&#8221; Hamilton said. &#8220;The way he came back from serious knee injuries in 2016 and 2019 showed his determination. We wish Doug and his family all the best for the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Bracewell\u2019s final appearance for Central came in July at the Global Super League in Guyana.
