a rollercoaster 2025 with a 1-0 win at <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"e8703d92-a160-9bbf-cb81-1be6f3fd7969\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=384\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Palace<\/a> to ease the pressure on Thomas Frank.<\/p>\n<p>Spurs fans had started to turn on Frank after a run of five defeats in eight left them 14th in the <a data-league-guid=\"6949f3af-300c-35f1-beab-b95669eedd38\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/league\/_\/name\/ENG.1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Premier League<\/a> on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>While there had been no suggestions internally that Frank&#8217;s job was under immediate threat, Tottenham needed to return to winning ways and Gray&#8217;s 42nd-minute header settled the contest between the current FA Cup and Europa League holders.<\/p>\n<p>It moved Spurs up to 11th but crucially they are only four points off fifth-placed <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c43a00b9-2826-72b3-77a0-62730abc936e\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=363\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a> ahead of Frank&#8217;s return to old club <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"0446e7fd-7655-f17a-d282-8c401b808d1f\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=337\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brentford<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Glasner watched his weary Palace team lose a third consecutive league game to further highlight the need for January reinforcements.<\/p>\n<p>Both clubs had celebrated eagerly-awaited cup wins in May but Spurs were without one of their heroes from Bilbao with <a data-player-guid=\"fad21314-b671-1f35-3c4c-1cb3dff354ad\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/96970\/cristian-romero\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cristian Romero<\/a> suspended.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" data-mptype=\"image\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\"\/>Archie Gray scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"df552b0a-e47b-dc1b-abda-6de1fe088e6b\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/250543\/kevin-danso\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Danso<\/a> replaced Romero and received a late Christmas present in the shape of a yellow card from referee Jarred Gillett after five minutes as Palace made the early running.<\/p>\n<p>Chances remained limited, though, and Tottenham thought they had taken the lead in the 17th minute through <a data-player-guid=\"9e496fda-00eb-67ea-9759-29748d1ab7a5\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/156799\/richarlison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Richarlison<\/a> only for their celebrations to be cut short after <a data-player-guid=\"ee46e890-1737-3b32-bb6d-bac107a155d1\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/356379\/lucas-bergvall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lucas Bergvall<\/a> was deemed offside in the build-up.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"dc059b52-c8f7-515a-e9f7-9f9e871e43da\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/241187\/jean-philippe-mateta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jean-Philippe Mateta<\/a> signalled his intentions with an effort dragged wide from 20 yards soon after before a short free-kick routine created another chance for Palace&#8217;s number nine but he nodded over from Maxence Lacroix&#8217;s header.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"3302ae34-ee4c-c77c-3fa2-c73ea9474ffa\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/291468\/justin-devenny\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Devenny<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"5d54c2c7-7a36-39db-ba86-7f23cd1629fc\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/333419\/adam-wharton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Wharton<\/a> tested <a data-player-guid=\"20a2b124-947c-e54a-d179-cc4b817c44ca\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/204082\/guglielmo-vicario\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guglielmo Vicario<\/a> with tame efforts before <a data-player-guid=\"57d43a85-faeb-8d63-4e15-2d3fd9613455\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/168421\/will-hughes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Hughes<\/a> curled wide after a slick move by the hosts.<\/p>\n<p>It appeared a matter of time before Palace broke the deadlock but Spurs struck against the run of play in the 42nd minute.<\/p>\n<p>After Randal Kolo Muani&#8217;s blocked shot forced a corner, Pedro Porro&#8217;s delivery to the back post was kept alive by Kolo Muani and then flicked on by Richarlison for Gray to head home from close-range to open his account for Tottenham.<\/p>\n<p>Spurs&#8217; slender half-time lead was immediately under threat as stand-in away captain <a data-player-guid=\"fb39b112-dd7e-a1e3-8852-851004f0cc18\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/296512\/micky-van-de-ven\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Micky van de Ven<\/a> blocked Yeremy Pino&#8217;s volley before an even better opportunity was created.<\/p>\n<p>Pino produced a sumptuous outside-of-the-boot cross which was knocked down by <a data-player-guid=\"bc6796f0-9434-cef0-1b5e-dd0fb1f493a1\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/127865\/nathaniel-clyne\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nathaniel Clyne<\/a> but Devenny fired over on the turn.<\/p>\n<p>Glasner turned to his bench with <a data-player-guid=\"ad06de23-acf7-ceb6-e2d9-7907464206c7\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/259486\/eddie-nketiah\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eddie Nketiah<\/a> introduced and another Palace chance was squandered with 20 minutes left when <a data-player-guid=\"3090787d-c7f0-7273-7797-0c8d0941c183\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/197399\/jefferson-lerma\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jefferson Lerma<\/a> teed up Lacroix but he sent his header wide.<\/p>\n<p>Five minutes later and Tottenham had the ball in the net again through Richarlison after a wonderful <a data-player-guid=\"e3a3d2d6-2713-3100-ee57-98317dc42fcd\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/266599\/mohammed-kudus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mohammed Kudus<\/a> cross only for VAR to deny the visitors again as the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2a051c42-4444-8263-799a-6cdd866bd8f7\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=205\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brazil<\/a> forward was marginally offside.<\/p>\n<p>Palace captain <a data-player-guid=\"476ae006-e5b6-49ac-b037-01ebe4436944\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/265907\/marc-guehi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marc Gu\u00e9hi<\/a> went close next after he headed over but no grand finale occurred as Spurs defended resolutely, with substitute <a data-player-guid=\"ecc9fe0a-6720-347f-9b5f-c12c8236ed6e\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/345687\/wilson-odobert\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wilson Odobert<\/a> unlucky to hit the inside of the post from range before <a data-player-guid=\"556a7122-7a95-5561-095c-cbd92cb05884\"
