\u201cAnd, boy, did I cry, it hurt,\u201d she told the publication.<\/p>\n
Thomas Morse admitted that as a child she felt burdened by the responsibility of being the face of the brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were times I didn\u2019t want people to know because I didn\u2019t want them to have assumptions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess my assumption was that they wouldn\u2019t think I was cool or hip or whatever at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said her dad recognised the pressure she had been under and expressed remorse.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably 10 years before my dad passed, we talked about my name and namesake, and he just goes, \u2018I\u2019m really sorry I did that to you,\u2019 which was really … to hear your father say, \u2018Probably should just named it Dave\u2019s and that\u2019d been a lot easier,\u2019 was a lot,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was just nice to hear that he felt for me a little bit,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Dave Thomas died in 2002 aged 69.<\/p>\n
Thomas Morse told People she did not bear any resentment towards her father, acknowledging he could never have predicted the global success of the brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, I look at the sign and I just see my dad,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just think of my dad a lot because he\u2019s there in spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thomas Morse and her siblings now own several Wendy\u2019s franchises.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a public company, of course, but I\u2019m honoured that I represent the brand and I try to represent it well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wendy\u2019s opened its first New Zealand restaurant in Te Atat\u016b in West Auckland, in December 1988.<\/p>\n
Today, the chain has 21 locations from Auckland to Dunedin.<\/p>\n
