Determined King Charles III is dead-set on reuniting his fractured family and bringing son Prince Harry back into the royal fold after the cancer-stricken monarch was given a new lease on life, sources say.<\/p>\n

Charles, 77, recently shared<\/a> that his medical treatments were being scaled back to a \u201cprecautionary phase\u201d \u2014 nearly two years after announcing that he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer.<\/p>\n

The happy news came days after the revelation that the U.K. Home Office ordered a security risk assessment to determine if California-based Harry \u2014 who ceased being a working royal in 2020 \u2014 should have government-funded protection on demand reinstated for him, his wife and their two children while in the U.K.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Harry comes back, he will need security \u2014 and the king is definitely being pressured on this issue by Harry,\u201d royal expert Hilary Fordwich tells the National Enquirer.<\/p>\n

As the Enquirer has reported, the Duke of Sussex lost his previous legal fight for unrestricted protection after being stripped of the taxpayer-funded perk by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee.<\/p>\n

Earlier in 2025, Harry told BBC News<\/a> that the revocation of his security was an \u201cestablishment stitch-up,\u201d seemingly suggesting that Buckingham Palace had influenced the decision to control his comings and goings.<\/p>\n

After ditching palace duties to chase lucrative Hollywood deals \u2014 and settling in a $14 million mansion in Montecito with wife Meghan Markle \u2014 the duke has only returned to his native England a handful of times.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Harry, 41, and the former Suits star, 44, have bashed his blue-blooded kin in multiple interviews \u2014 and he trash-talked his royal relatives in his scathing tell-all, Spare.<\/p>\n

But since Harry shared a private tea with his father in September, sources say their icy relationship has begun to thaw \u2014 possibly setting the stage for the duke\u2019s return to palace life.<\/p>\n

Now, sources say sentimental Charles wants to spend more time with Harry \u2014 and broker peace between the royal renegade and his unforgiving older brother, Prince William \u2014 so he\u2019s quietly urging the security about-face to bring home his second-born son and grandkids Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.<\/p>\n

Courtiers confide that the king gets great joy from spending time with William\u2019s kids with wife Kate \u2014 Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 \u2014 but he\u2019s longing to dote on Archie and Lili, the grandbabies he hasn\u2019t seen since June 2022.<\/p>\n

Fordwich says, \u201cKing Charles has always called Harry \u2018my dear boy.\u2019 He\u2019s always had a soft spot for his son, and he does want to see his grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also notes that the monarch has been asserting himself lately to keep his family in line.<\/p>\n

Take-charge Charles recently stripped the royal titles<\/a> of his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and ousted him from his palace-owned home Royal Lodge amid public outrage over the former prince\u2019s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

Fordwich points out the king cannot publicly lobby politicians on policy decisions, such as security rulings.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is not allowed to formally intervene,\u201d she says. \u201cNow, does it mean that he\u2019s had some words and leaned on people? Perhaps.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this is the only way to pave a way for his family to be brought back to the U.K.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, courtiers expect the king to lay down the law if Harry returns \u2014 with or without Meghan. A palace source tells the Enquirer, \u201cThere is talk that His Majesty is insisting if Harry returns, he must respect the crown \u2014 and his stepmother, Queen Camilla.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to the possible U.K. return of the Duchess of Sussex, who described being miserable in her gilded royal cage, Fordwich says, \u201cThe big issue is the condition of Harry\u2019s marriage. There has been whispering in and among courtiers that he\u2019s not really happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The source adds, \u201cThe king and Harry continue to clash over Meghan. Charles insists that Harry commit to making her return to the fold and follow royal protocol. If Meghan comes back, she\u2019ll no doubt be expected to follow the same rules as Harry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, Fordwich says, \u201cI don\u2019t think Meghan will ever be happy in the U.K. She\u2019s a California, high publicity, celebrity-thinking girl. She may be the dealbreaker.\u201d<\/p>\n
