Recently, Konkona spoke candidly about why women romancing younger men is often labelled \u201cbold\u201d.<\/p>\n

Konkona Sensharma’s take on age-gap romances<\/p>\n

The debate around age-gap romances resurfaced earlier when Kajol and Twinkle Khanna, on their chat show, asked Salman Khan<\/a> and Aamir Khan why older male actors romancing younger women is termed \u201ccinema magic,\u201d while the reverse is called \u201cbold.\u201d Having experienced the scrutiny firsthand, Konkona believes the interpretation lies with viewers. She says, \u201cIt\u2019s the audience\u2019s prerogative and their right. Somebody can see it as bold, somebody else might not.\u201d For her, such relationships do not feel radical or shocking. Real life already reflects diverse age dynamics.She points out, \u201cFor me, personally it\u2019s not a bold concept because there’s so many different couples of different age groups in real life. We see it even amongst famous people, and it’s slowly kind of becoming normalised\u201d As society slowly normalises this, she questions the constant spotlight. \u201cSo why do we need to keep on harping about all this?\u201d she asks, adding that while she doesn\u2019t find the debate exciting, she respects differing views.<\/p>\n

Breaking the boxes women are put in<\/p>\n

Konkona also addresses how women are often boxed into rigid ideas. She feels this limits how stories are understood. \u201cThere is no one way of being a woman, That is something even Durga exemplifies, showing all the different roles that women can inhabit and all different ways that one can be a woman.\u201d she states, explaining that female identities hold many contradictions and strengths. Opening this lens allows audiences to see deeper emotional textures instead of surface-level labels.<\/p>\n

Why the context matters in her films.<\/p>\n

For Konkona, intention and storytelling matter more than headlines. \u201cIn both my films, the age gap served a different purpose, Just to see it from the lens of romancing a younger man and it being bold, it’s a little boring for me. I\u201d she explains. \u2018In Metro\u2026 In Dino\u2019, the situation unfolds with humour and exposes a male character\u2019s conflict. She notes, \u201cNo one talks about Pankaj going to a hotel to meet another young woman. I don\u2019t know why that is not called \u2018bold\u2019?\u201dIn \u2018Dolly Kitty\u2019, the relationship reflects a woman\u2019s journey through an unhappy marriage, \u201cSo she had this affair with this younger man, which was really on her path to self realisation of many things,” she said.<\/p>\n

Konkona Sensharma on work front<\/p>\n

She was last seen in the crime thriller web series \u2018Search: The Naina Murder Case\u2019. The series is directed Rohan Sippy, starring Shraddha Das, Shiv Panditt, and Surya Sharma.
