\n The venue announced its closure with immediate effect on Tuesday via its Facebook page.\n<\/p>\n
\n In a statement, it said: “Following a slow winter and the impending financial implications of Rachael Reeves’ budget, we have no option but to close with immediate effect.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We would like to thank everyone who has supported us.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Hospitality is being destroyed by the government and many businesses can no longer continue.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It’s time for us to close our doors.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Critics have accused Rachel Reeves of “sentencing countless pubs to death” through her “crippling” budget tax hikes.\n<\/p>\n
\n Business rates for firms are set to increase in April due to a combination of a revaluation of the rateable value of buildings and the end of a 40pc discount on bills for the hospitality industry.\n<\/p>\n
\n The government says it has introduced a \u00a34.3bn support package over the next three years to help businesses that have seen their bills soar because of the revaluation.\n<\/p>\n
\n The owner of the Swan Inn in Mattishall,<\/a> Carol Kenny, also claimed that the chancellor’s budget was the “final nail in the coffin” for the pub, which closed in December.\n<\/p>\n
