{"id":213372,"date":"2026-01-02T15:31:43","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T15:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/213372\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T15:31:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T15:31:43","slug":"quite-heavy-in-localised-areas-more-rain-on-the-way-for-new-years-eve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/213372\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Quite heavy in localised areas&#8217;: More rain on the way for New Year&#8217;s Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/4JVL5GG_878B5C47_DF95_4F12_A042_72643BF7563D_JPG.jpeg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"1400\" alt=\"Picture shows muddy grounds under grape vines.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nFestival goers at Rhythm and Vines are off to a soggy start after the region was wiped with heavy rain.<br \/>\nPhoto: Lucy Parkinson\n<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of households in the North Island are still out of power after yesterday&#8217;s wild weather.<\/p>\n<p>The affected areas include the Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Taranaki, Palmerston North, and Horowhenua.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-nine properties in Pirinoa, a coastal community in Wairarapa, are also affected.<\/p>\n<p>Electra, which provides power in the K\u0101piti and Horowhenua districts, encourages people to stay safe and look after one another.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the country is in for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/national\/582830\/weather-heavy-rain-strong-winds-for-much-of-country\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">another rainy day<\/a> on Wednesday, after severe wind and rain battered the North Island and upper South Island.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/national\/582878\/power-outages-heavy-rain-and-strong-gales-as-wild-weather-heads-south\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tuesday&#8217;s wild weather<\/a> downed trees and powerlines, causing road closures and widespread power cuts.<\/p>\n<p>MetService meteorologist Alec Holden said a calmer day was in store, but showers were still forecast for both islands.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It does look like they could be quite heavy in localised areas all the way up from Northland in a seatbelt down through the spine of the North Island all the way to the bottom of the North Island.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A heavy rain warning is in place for the ranges of Tasman District west of Motueka from 6am Wednesday, heading into Thursday.
