According to a Dialogue Earth report, China is one of the planet\u2019s greatest energy consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the country\u2019s primary climate goals is to achieve peak emissions by 2030, which it certainly will achieve, considering its growing energy demand. According to Ember\u2019s data, the energy consumption per person is approximately 7,289 kWh. The country\u2019s substantial demand can be attributed to:<\/p>\n<p>Swift electrification expansions, including<\/p>\n<p>AI data centers, industrial and residential heat pumps, and EVs<br \/>\nThe charging demand of EVs is expected to increase substantially<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, while fossil fuels (coal in particular) still accounted for 52% of the country\u2019s energy supply, China\u2019s use of fossil fuels is declining as a result of the expansion of its total renewable energy capacity. Firstly, the entire project is developed in a single phase by Powerchina Hebei Electric Power Engineering and Datang Qinghai Energy Development. Secondly, this project is larger than one would think, as experts describe the entire solar farm to be seven times the size of Manhattan, and it is expected to be even bigger in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>7 times the size of Manhattan, and even bigger in 2026<\/p>\n<p>The 162-square-mile project comprises 7,000,000 solar panels to produce clean solar power in Qinghai Province\u2019s Gonghe County. According to a report by Newsweek, the solar farm\u2019s power output is enough to provide electricity for 5,000,000 households. However, Talantan Solar Park is part of a greater hybrid project, and supplemented by nearby wind farms with a total capacity of 4,700 MW and hydroelectric dams with a total capacity of 7,380 MW.<\/p>\n<p>The solar park itself reportedly will be ready to start commercial operations in 2026 and will continue to expand, perhaps even to ten times the size of Manhattan. The combined diverse energy project is expected to transmit the produced electricity over 1,000 miles to city centers via high-voltage lines. China\u2019s most energy-intensive data centers and AI infrastructure will significantly benefit from the clean and cost-effective power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">As China continues to expand its total installed renewable energy capacity, it steadily moves one step closer to achieving its climate goals, and may even achieve them much faster. Not only does the Talatan Solar Park generate additional clean solar power, but it also boosts the local economy thanks to integrating \u2018photovoltaic sheep\u2019 farming.
