He would pretend that he didn\u2019t want things that he really did want, to try to get the price down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 1934, Barnes advised Bignou to find someone who would buy \u201cThe Henriot Family\u201d for $75,000. In 1935, Bignou put it on display, where it was reviewed as \u201creplete with Renoir\u2019s irresistible ability to project his sense of the deliciousness of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barnes then bought the painting for $50,000. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1935\/04\/06\/archives\/barnbs-acquires-two-renoir-works-merion-pa-collector-buys-paintings.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It was his 175th Renoir<\/a>. He would ultimately own 181.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Henriot Family\u201d is expected to be returned to the Barnes Foundation gallery wall in February. Lucy believes the cleaned and repaired painting will convey a whole new vibe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though we knew the varnish was dirty, you think of it as that color, sort of a warm sunlight,\u201d she said. \u201cBut here, it\u2019s a totally different kind of atmosphere. It\u2019s a totally different kind of day.
