UAB Health System is kicking off the New Year by acquiring another local healthcare practice. According to a press release<\/a>, UAB Medicine acquired Southview Medical Group on Thursday, January 1 and now owns the group\u2019s network of providers and facilities. <\/p>\n

Dating back to 1922, Southview Medical Group is a local multi-specialty practice that specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases for patients in central Alabama.\u00a0Today, Southview Medical Group\u2019s practice includes 30+ providers in internal medicine, cardiology, infection disease, endocrinology and gastroenterology and cares for more than 51,000 unique patients each year. <\/p>\n

\u201cSouthview Medical Group has a long-standing reputation for delivering exceptional, patient-centered care. This agreement combines that tradition with the resources and innovation of an academic health system. It also strengthens UAB Medicine\u2019s ability to provide seamless access to primary care, improve care coordination, and ensure patients benefit from the full spectrum of services \u2014 from prevention to advanced treatment \u2014 right here in Birmingham.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the agreement finalized on New Year\u2019s Day, UAB Health System now owns Southview Medical Group\u2019s network of providers and facilities, including its locations at\u00a0UAB St. Vincent\u2019s\u00a0Birmingham and UAB Medicine St. Vincent\u2019s\u00a0One Nineteen.<\/p>\n

According to UAB, the new partnership will strengthen access to high-quality care in Birmingham and surrounding communities and position both organizations to meet growing demand for primary and specialty care while addressing healthcare challenges.<\/p>\n

The acquisition of Southview Medical Group comes a little over a year after UAB acquired Ascension St. Vincent\u2019s, Birmingham\u2019s oldest hospital and network of medical facilities, in a $450 million agreement<\/a>. <\/p>\n
