\u201cI think it\u2019s a very serious breach, it\u2019s not just the large number of New Zealanders impacted, over 100,000, but it\u2019s the nature of the information that has been breached.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew Zealanders have a right to expect that their data, which is being held by entities, whether public or private, is being held to the highest of standards,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there\u2019s certainly lessons that need to be learned, I think it\u2019s pretty unacceptable what\u2019s happened to be honest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think many New Zealanders will be very concerned about this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manage My Health has said between 6% and 7% of the approximately 1.8 million registered users were impacted.<\/p>\n
In an interview with RNZ on Tuesday, Manage My Health chief executive Vino Ramayah said the company was itself also the victim of crime.<\/p>\n
He said patients should trust the company \u201ceven though we have dropped the ball\u201d, and his own medical records were among those accessed.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, a cyber security expert told RNZ he could not see Manage My Health recovering from the breach.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, this is a big hit on our reputation and I do not disagree with that observation,\u201d Ramayah said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut whether we can recover, we\u2019ve got an excellent team, we\u2019ve got an excellent product and we have served Kiwis for a very long time well.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very confident that we can restore the confidence and we are doing the right thing to ensure that we put providers and patients ahead of our own interests.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ramayah said he took full responsibility for what had happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s something for after the dust settles, whether I\u2019m the current or continue to be the CEO,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not unprepared to step down if there\u2019s a better person who can do a better job than I did.\u201d<\/p>\n
