AN exhibition which promises to offer \u201ca much-needed pop of colour and visual clarity during the darkest winter months\u201d is set to open next week.<\/p>\n
Minimal Works by Connor Daly will open at ArtHouse Jersey\u2019s Capital House on Friday 16 January and run until Sunday 1 February 2026.<\/p>\n
The photographic exhibition, which was developed over six years, aims to challenge photography\u2019s claim to objectivity and truth-telling.<\/p>\n
The show features a series of large-scale photographic works, each a study of urban spaces as compositions of colour, material and shape.<\/p>\n
Many of the photographs were taken in Jersey, and local audiences may recognise familiar sites that have been transformed beyond their everyday appearances.<\/p>\n
Although the series concluded in 2022, Mr Daly said that it retains a \u201clingering feeling of incompleteness\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cIt\u2019s great to see my series \u2018Minimal Works\u2019 exhibited in such a beautiful environment, after many years of collecting digital dust. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been looking, re-looking, thinking and re-thinking about this large body of work for almost ten years. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn the time since I started the series, my practice has evolved significantly and I have had many life changing experiences in photography, many of which I owe to this series as it has brought me in contact with a wide range of characters and organisations who have assisted me in producing new work. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn this instance, I would like to personally thank the wonderful team at ArtHouse Jersey, whose support cannot be quantified in words, but who know how deeply I appreciate them for being champions of my work, as well as the wider artistic community in Jersey.\u201d<\/p>\n
ArtHouse Jersey head of programme James Tyson said: \u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to host Connor Daly\u2019s Minimal Works as our first exhibition of 2026. <\/p>\n
\u201cConnor is a photographer who has intrepidly sought to capture spaces both familiar and everyday \u2013 road markings, car parks \u2013 and see them as if with new eyes as spaces vivid to behold.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Daly is a British photographer working between the UK and Jersey. His work has been exhibited internationally and has received several photography awards.<\/p>\n
This exhibition is the first of the year to fall under ArtHouse Jersey\u2019s New Work Programme, which is sponsored by Coutts Crown Dependencies.<\/p>\n
