28 Days Later\u00a0director\u00a0Danny Boyle\u00a0and screenwriter\u00a0Alex Garland finally reunited to make a sequel to their zombie (or, if you prefer, infected people) movie classic.\u00a028 Years Later, which is meant to launch a whole trilogy of\u00a028 Days Later\u00a0sequels, reached theatres at the end of June, and the second chapter in the trilogy,\u00a028 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, is scheduled to be released on\u00a0January 16, 2026.\u00a0Garland also wrote the screenplays for the sequels that will come after\u00a028 Years Later\u00a0\u2013 but for the second movie, Boyle has passed the helm over to\u00a0Candyman\u00a0and\u00a0The Marvels\u00a0director\u00a0Nia DaCosta<\/a>\u00a0for the sequel. With just one week to go before DaCosta\u2019s film reaches theatres, the Motion Picture Association ratings board<\/a> has confirmed that they\u2019ve given 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple an R rating.<\/p>\n

The Story Continues<\/p>\n

Boyle might circle back to direct\u00a028 Years Later Part III, which currently has Cillian Murphy\u00a0in talks<\/a>\u00a0to reprise his role from\u00a028 Days Later.\u00a028 Years Later\u00a0made $150 million at the global box office, but seemed to have trouble connecting with the audience. JoBlo\u2019s own Chris Bumbray gave\u00a028 Years Later\u00a0a\u00a07\/10 review<\/a>, and when we got a second opinion from Kier Gomes, he gave it\u00a0a 6.5<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Empire<\/a> has previously let us know that in\u00a0The Bone Temple, we should\u00a0expect more danger from the Jimmies as young hero Spike (Alfie Williams) is brought into their ranks, while Ralph Fiennes\u2019 benevolent Dr Kelson strikes up an unlikely kinship with marauding Alpha infected Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry). Among it all, audiences will learn more about the bizarre belief system Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O\u2019Connell) has constructed for himself \u2013 channeled through pop cultural memories from his childhood, like Teletubbies, Power Rangers, cricket, and Jimmy Savile; who, in 2002, had not been unveiled as the monstrous predator he truly was.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Weird<\/p>\n

DaCosta told Empire, \u201cMy movie is quite\u2026\u00a0weird. It\u2019s surprising. There were multiple moments reading the script where my jaw dropped, literally.\u201d O\u2019Connell added that\u00a0The Bone Temple\u00a0is the \u201cweird, demented, relative cousin of what we\u2019ve seen before, in a way I\u2019m really f*cking proud of. Because it\u2019s rooted in soul, and the what-ifs. Massive what-ifs. And it\u2019s f*cking shocking.\u201c<\/p>\n

Rating<\/p>\n

28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, gore, graphic nudity, language throughout, and brief drug use.<\/p>\n
