EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert\u00a0is a new music documentary from filmmaker\u00a0Baz Luhrmann, focusing on the 1970s era that saw\u00a0\u201cThe King\u201d<\/a>\u00a0play a lengthy residency in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n The project was announced recently, with the film scheduled to land in IMAX theaters for a one-week engagement starting Feb. 20, followed by a worldwide theatrical release on Feb. 27.<\/p>\n Anyone who saw Luhrmann\u2019s 2022 biopic\u00a0ELVIS\u00a0starring\u00a0Austin Butler\u00a0\u2014 or simply knows details of Presley\u2019s later years \u2014 is familiar with the context in which the famed singer found himself in Sin City for a yearslong residency. It\u2019s at the heart of the biopic\u2019s retelling of Elvis\u2019 story, as well as this doc.<\/p>\n This new film, per its official description,\u00a0features long-lost footage from Presley\u2019s legendary Vegas residency in the 1970s, woven together with rare 16mm footage from Elvis on Tour and treasured 8mm film from the Graceland archive, along with rediscovered recordings of Elvis telling \u2018his side of the story,.\u2019<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a new teaser trailer, which turned up online Thursday:<\/p>\n Want more stories like this? It will feature \u201crecordings heard in the upcoming film, featuring updated mixes of iconic live performances alongside new remixes and medleys of classic Elvis recordings,\u201d per press materials.<\/p>\n Per a news release: Coupled with remixes and medleys that blend, reimagine and interpret Presley in bold new directions, the resulting film and soundtrack are a testament to Elvis\u2019 1970s performances as \u201cstartlingly ahead of their time\u201d (Variety) and \u201cthe singer at his most mesmerizing\u201d (The Guardian). The soundtrack album is executive produced by GRAMMY-nominated Luhrmann.\u00a0<\/p>\n As a preview, here\u2019s \u201cWearin\u2019 That Night Life Look,\u201d blending four Elvis recordings (\u201cWearin\u2019 That Loved On Look,\u201d \u201cNight Life,\u201d \u201cI, John,\u201d \u201cLet Yourself Go\u201d) into one new creative statement:<\/p>\n Said Luhrmann of the inspiration behind the soundtrack album:\u201cWe were constantly asking ourselves, what would Elvis do if he were around? How might he experiment, where might he go? During the making of Elvis, from very early on in my process I had the privilege to access the studio\u2019s vaults deep in the salt mines of Kansas, where troves of old film negatives are stored.
