{"id":227470,"date":"2026-01-11T00:24:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T00:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/227470\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T00:24:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T00:24:07","slug":"girl-14-in-hospital-after-being-hit-by-car-amid-rowdy-tauranga-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/227470\/","title":{"rendered":"Girl, 14, in hospital after being hit by car amid rowdy Tauranga party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">A driver has been arrested after a 14-year-old girl was hit by a car outside a party in Tauranga last night, with police alleging emergency responders faced aggression while trying to help the critically injured teenager.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Police said the girl was in a serious condition at Starship Hospital after the incident on Kaitemako Rd in Welcome Bay at around 11.30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Senior Sergeant Roger Schreuder said a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;Police have arrested the driver, inquiries continue and once concluded, charges are likely,&#8221; he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;The incident occurred outside of an address where there was a large party involving youths, some became aggressive to police and ambulance staff who were trying to assist the injured teenager. This was extremely disappointing behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The Serious Crash Unit and the criminal investigation branch attended the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">A witness described the party as \u201cout-of-control&#8221;, SunLive reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Hato Hone St John responded with one ambulance, one rapid response unit, and one manager to the scene.
