praised for bringing the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing attack to an end<\/a>, has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer.<\/p>\nPolice Legacy NSW, the NSW Police Force’s charity, said their “beautiful friend and colleague” was selfless and compassionate, and needed “the strength, compassion, and support of her community”.<\/p>\n
“Just as she is so much more than her diagnosis, she is so much more than ‘the hero of Bondi Junction,'” the organisation said.<\/p>\n
“She is a loving wife, mother of two young boys, devoted to serving the community through her work as a NSW Police Officer, and widely known as selfless, compassionate, and kind.”<\/p>\n
The charity has set up a fundraiser to “ease the financial burden” for Inspector Scott and her family.<\/p>\n
“She is fiercely independent and the first to champion others. Whilst she is being well supported by her family, friends and colleagues, Amy has a long uphill battle ahead to beat this insidious disease,” Police Legacy NSW said.<\/p>\n
NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley said “the whole police family are suffering at the moment with the knowledge of her diagnosis”.<\/p>\n

Scott an ‘absolute champion’<\/p>\n
Scott was labelled a hero and credited with saving lives after she pursued Joel Cauchi through Bondi Junction Westfield after a stabbing rampage in April 2024, which ended in the deaths of six people.<\/p>\n
She was subsequently recognised with the Commissioner’s Valour Award.<\/p>\n
On Monday, NSW Premier Chris Minns said he spoke to Inspector Scott a few weeks ago, and he was “devastated” by her cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n
“She is a genuine, bona fide Australian hero and someone we owe a huge debt of gratitude to, not just because of her heroic actions in Bondi Junction of a couple of years ago, but also she’s been an inspiration to the exact same officers that attended the [Bondi Beach] terrorism event on the 14th of December,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If anyone deserves a break, it’s Amy, and we just wish her the very best. She’s an absolute champion.”<\/p>\n
Previously, at the coronial inquest into the attack, Inspector Scott credited her colleagues for their bravery during the incident.<\/p>\n
“Whilst I was the person who faced Joel, those same officers [went in too] \u2026 I just want to acknowledge their courage and bravery,” she said.<\/p>\n
“As tragic as that day was, it restored my faith in humanity.”<\/p>\n
