\n\tJudd Apatow<\/a> squashed a personal beef with the Golden Globes<\/a> on Sunday night in order to present the award for Best Director to Paul Thomas Anderson.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe director joked that he\u2019d been boycotting the ceremony for the last decade, since his 2015 film Trainwreck<\/a> lost the Best Picture \u2013 Musical or Comedy category to Ridley Scott\u2019s The Martian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know, Ridley Scott. America\u2019s favorite comedy director. Director of such hilarious comedies as Gladiator, Blade Runner and Alien. I can\u2019t wait till later tonight when Best Comedy is won by Hamnet,\u201d he joked, referring to Chloe Zhao\u2019s heart-wrenching film about William and Agnes Shakespeare\u2019s personal tragedy that inspired the play Hamlet. <\/p>\n

\n\tApatow has been so affected by the slight that he says he\u2019s been unable to move on even through some of the most historic moments of the last 10 years. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA lot has happened since then\u2026we\u2019ve had COVID. I believe we\u2019re a dictatorship now. And I\u2019m still pretty focused on this Martian thing. I gotta be honest with you,\u201d he said. \u201cAs an example to inspire America, I\u2019m going to squash that beef and start the healing right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApatow was presenting in a different category this year, handing the Best Director award to Anderson for One Battle After Another. He said he hopes the honor of being asked to present means that the Globes organizers think he\u2019s a pretty good director, too.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m very honored to be asked to present the award for Best Director, because I\u2019m pretty sure that means the Globes people think I\u2019m also one of the best directors. I mean, they wouldn\u2019t have someone to present this who is worse than the nominees. They probably would want someone who was, not better, at least as good as them, as a sign of respect,\u201d he said. \u201cSo thank you for this. I mean, this is basically the equivalent of getting a lifetime achievement award.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also thanked his wife, Leslie Mann, calling her his \u201cmuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSometimes I get this fear that I\u2019m not as good as everyone else is directing, because, you know, I don\u2019t know how to move the camera or what the lenses do or what a Best Boy is,\u201d he sarcastically added.<\/p>\n
