{"id":232163,"date":"2026-01-14T05:22:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T05:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/232163\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T05:22:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T05:22:08","slug":"three-people-rescued-from-a-capsized-boat-off-tolaga-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/232163\/","title":{"rendered":"Three people rescued from a capsized boat off Tolaga Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">The Eastland Rescue Helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft with police observers joined the search, along with other commercial vessels nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">At 12:30pm, Maritime NZ\u2019s Rescue Coordination Centre was asked for help with search planning and coordinating search aircraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cRCCNZ then coordinated with a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-8A Poseidon, which offered to help and diverted from a training exercise in the Hauraki Gulf,\u201d Maritime NZ said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">RCCNZ took over coordination of the rescue about 2pm, directing aircraft and providing search areas for vessels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAt 2:39pm, the P-8A Poseidon spotted three people in the water. RCCNZ directed the rescue helicopter and Coastguard Gisborne vessel to the location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">The three were recovered, confirmed to be the only people on board and taken to shore to be looked over by the ambulance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"XFozzeHJqgxP\" style=\"display:none\">Hato Hone St John said three people in a moderate condition were airlifted to Gisborne Hospital about 4pm.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\"The coordinated rescue effort involved Maritime NZ\u2019s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCCNZ), NZ Police, Coastguard Tautiaki Moana, the New Zealand Defence Force, the Eastland Rescue Helicopter, Surf Lifesaving NZ and local commercial operators.
