Teyana Taylor has left her fans and pop culture observers alike stunned with her latest remarks on Kanye West.<\/p>\n
A longtime friend and collaborator of hers, the controversial rapper has been hailed by the current Oscar hopeful as a brother, with her recently telling\u00a0Vanity Fair that she\u2019s \u201cnot going to, like, abandon him and be like, \u2018Yeah, eff that motherf*****.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy brothers do s*** that I don\u2019t agree with,\u201d is how the One Battle After Another actress described her definitive stand on the matter.<\/p>\n
As Tina Fey once famously claimed on the Las Culturistas podcast, \u201cAuthenticity is dangerous and expensive,\u201d Teyana\u2019s timing of addressing Kanye\u2019s situation is therefore unmistakably poor.<\/p>\n
Though admirable for the honesty, the singer and actress\u2019s authentic response could prove to be nonetheless costly in her race to the Academy Awards.<\/p>\n
Taylor recently took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress \u2013 Motion Picture, thanks to her scene-stealing performance in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s latest film.<\/p>\n
With Oscars voting taking off at 9 a.m. PT on January 12 however \u2013 barely a day after the Globes \u2013 the 35-year-old star\u2019s status as this season\u2019s favourite to not only score a nomination but outright bag the prize is now being questioned by more than a few online.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Taylor is being compared to one of last season\u2019s most prominent nominees, Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
The Spanish-born actress, who became the first trans performer to land a Best Actress nomination for her performance in Emilia P\u00e9rez, was relentlessly mocked and criticised for her unearthed controversial tweets related to racism and other offences leading up to the Oscars broadcast.<\/p>\n
However, despite the uproar and speculation about whether she will be facilitated by Netflix to attend the Oscars amid her scandal, Gasc\u00f3n was in fact invited to the event \u2014 even if her chances of winning may have considerably reduced.<\/p>\n
It is then worth considering that if the Biden era Hollywood was indifferent to such \u2018misdemeanours\u2019, perhaps the ongoing political scenario is hardly worth anything where Taylor\u2019s remarks are concerned.<\/p>\n
Inching closer and closer to a wider acceptance of dubious conduct across the board, the Trump-led reality of America has palpably permeated every section of the country\u2019s society, with its film industry likely not being any different.<\/p>\n
Indeed, it would not be an exaggeration to believe that a heavily political story like One Battle After Another would inspire dozens of winning speeches with similar sentiments from its contenders during the Hollywood of yesteryears\u00a0\u2014 case in point, celebrity statements during Donald Trump\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n
And yet, the Brazilian actor Wagner Moura\u00a0\u2014 comfortably a Hollywood outsider \u2014 emerged as the only public figure to acknowledge the ongoing volatility of global politics, reiterating the power of \u201cvalues\u201d in his Golden Globe-winning speech last Sunday.<\/p>\n
In contrast, a handful of American celebrities sported barely visible pins, labelled\u00a0\u201cICE Out\u201d and\u00a0\u201cBe Good\u201d,\u00a0ostentatiously avoiding a bigger responsibility while\u00a0\u2018making a statement\u2019.<\/p>\n
