On this week\u2019s show (16th January), Graham welcomes freshly knighted actor Sir Idris Elba, Adolescence\u00a0star Erin Doherty, award-winning actress Wunmi Mosaku, Sherlock\u00a0star Martin Freeman, and the UK\u2019s hottest new superstar singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.<\/p>\n
Idris, talking about his knighthood, says, \u201cI haven\u2019t had the sword on the shoulder yet, but my wife is loving it.\u201d\u00a0 Revealing how the honour almost passed him by, he says, \u201cIt\u2019s a bit embarrassing.\u00a0 I was sent a consideration letter asking whether I would or wouldn\u2019t accept it, but I didn\u2019t see it as it got lost in a pile of post.\u00a0 My agent told me that if I didn\u2019t accept it would pass me by.\u00a0 By the time I found the letter I had only two days to decide.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n
Adding jokingly, \u201cI got it for services to young people and I was thinking, \u2018Hang on\u00a0 a minute, that\u2019s great, but I\u2019ve been acting for 30 years!\u2019\u201d\u00a0 It is actually a great honour, and my mum is so pleased.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Asked about season two of his hostage thriller\u00a0Hijack, he says, \u201cThe first season was a big hit and people bought into so we\u2019re going to do it again. The story is about what happens next after the plane hijack.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good old-fashioned thriller.\u201d<\/p>\n
Erin, talking about Adolescence and her Emmy speech, says, \u201cMy mum told me off for swearing.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t mean to, but everyone looked so f**king stunning.\u00a0 I\u2019ve promised her I won\u2019t do it again!\u201d<\/p>\n
Chatting about the new series of Victorian drama\u00a0A Thousand Blows, in which she uses her own voice for the first time in a production, she says, \u201cSurprisingly I\u2019ve never been able to use it before, so it was a real joy.\u00a0 When Stephen Graham heard I was being considered for the role he said, \u2018I don\u2019t think she is what we are looking for\u2019 because he had only seen and heard me as Princess Anne in The Crown.\u00a0 He was delighted to find out I\u2019m from Crawley!\u201d<\/p>\n

Wunmi, talking about starring in period horror movie\u00a0Sinners, and asked when she knew it would be a hit, says, \u201cI felt from the moment I read the first scene, with its depth and humanity, it was going to be amazing.\u00a0 It is romantic and beautiful, and my character exudes love and knowledge.\u00a0 I found out on the last day of filming that the part was written with me in mind.\u00a0 I had no idea.\u00a0 It is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Revealing her love of acting stems from the musical Annie, she says, \u201cI watched that film every single day after school.\u00a0 I\u2019d press \u2018play\u2019 and the tears would start rolling.\u00a0 When I decided I wanted to act I went through the cast and found out how they became actors.\u00a0 As Albert Finney was from Manchester, I thought I would do what he did, so I auditioned for RADA and got it.\u00a0 I had never heard of drama school before that.\u00a0 Annie changed my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin, talking about new TV series\u00a0Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, says, \u201cI didn\u2019t know these characters as they are from the early novels.\u00a0 The story is set in a weird place in time.\u00a0 It is the Roaring Twenties, which was mired in the grief and loss of WW1.\u00a0 It has an authentic 20s voice that still feels good to our modern ears.\u00a0 It is funny and moving and was great fun to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about his impeccable scouse accent in The Responder, he says, \u201cThe acid test is pleasing people from that place and as long as no one wants to hurt me because it is bad, I am happy.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a wanky actor, but I actually stayed in the accent all day.\u00a0 It\u2019s a muscle and very physical and I didn\u2019t want to watch it in a year\u2019s time and be thinking \u2018I could have worked harder.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
