{"id":236422,"date":"2026-01-16T13:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T13:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/236422\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T13:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T13:58:13","slug":"govt-tourism-campaign-to-target-lower-south-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/236422\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt tourism campaign to target lower South Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re backing the South to shine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That is the message from Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston who has announced a campaign targeting the lower South Island to run from April until June.<\/p>\n<p>The Southern Way campaign would receive $459,250 from the second stage of the Regional Tourism Boost Fund to build on the momentum of the first campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Stage one, announced in November last year, funded four campaigns for travel from January 2026, totalling $5.9m and included $393,500 for the Southern Way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With direct flights from the Gold Coast into both Dunedin and Queenstown, it\u2019s never been easier for Australians to explore everything the lower South Island has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This campaign is about sharing what makes the South truly special \u2014 Oamaru\u2019s iconic cheese, Central Otago wines, wilderness walks in the West Coast and Dunedin\u2019s vibrant arts scene,&#8221; Ms Upston said.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign brought together Great South, Tourism Waitaki, Enterprise Dunedin, Clutha Development, Tourism Central Otago, Destination Queenstown, and Lake Wanaka Tourism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By joining forces, these organisations are showcasing the very best of the South and delivering real benefits for local communities,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign would encourage visitors to take advantage of time-limited travel and accommodation deals and there would be new themed itineraries and bookable packages.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement meant all $10m in the Regional Tourism Boost (round 2) funding had now been allocated, supporting nine campaigns across New Zealand\u2019s regions. \u2014 Allied Media<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#8220;We&#8217;re backing the South to shine.&#8221; That is the message from Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston who&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":236423,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[42,43,40,38,41,39],"class_list":{"0":"post-236422","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-headlines","8":"tag-headlines","9":"tag-news","10":"tag-top-news","11":"tag-top-stories","12":"tag-topnews","13":"tag-topstories"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/236422","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=236422"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/236422\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/236423"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=236422"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=236422"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=236422"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
