(photo by Raquel Perez Puig, courtesy LGBT3)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/tag\/art-movements\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Art Movements,<\/a>\u00a0published every Thursday afternoon, is a roundup of must-know news, appointments, awards, and other happenings in today\u2019s chaotic art world.<\/p>\n<p>Move Over, Golden Lion<\/p>\n<p>If, like me, you&#8217;d rather be in Puerto Rico slathering mashed banana on your semi-nude body than braving the forthcoming cold front in New York City, just know you&#8217;re not alone. &#8220;TROPICALIZE ME!\u201d (2025), pictured above, was performed by Matthieu Laurette at the 3rd Gran Bienal Tropical in December, where the artist took home one of five \u201cGolden Coconuts\u201d along with Poncili Creaci\u00f3n, \u00c1ngela Mar\u00eda Dom\u00ednguez, Miguel Gonz\u00e1lez,\u00a0and Aldo \u00c1lvarez Tostado. Three artists \u2014 Sof\u00eda Gallis\u00e1 Muriente, Edgardo Larregui, and Karmadavis \u2014 secured the biennial&#8217;s highest prize: the \u201cGolden Pineapple,\u201d of course. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/LGBT3_Edgardo-Larregui-1_cred-Raquel-Perez-Puig-1.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1334\"  \/>Edgardo Larregui took home the 3rd Gran Bienal Tropical&#8217;s Golden Pineapple for his work &#8220;La Carrera: Happening Jueyero&#8221; (2025). United States Artists (USA) <a href=\"https:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/united-states-artists-awards-50k-grants-to-50-fellows\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced the winners<\/a> of its cushy $50K unrestricted prize, and Creative Capital <a href=\"https:\/\/creative-capital.org\/press\/announcing-2026-creative-capital-awards-state-of-the-art-prize-artists\/?ref=hyperallergic.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">revealed the recipients<\/a> of its coveted unrestricted project funding grant as well as a new award, the State of the Art Prize, which grants $10K to 53 individual artists.<\/p>\n<p>Artadia gave its 2025 SEEN Award to Bay Area sculptor Michelle Yi Martin. David Batchelor, Will Boone, Deondre Davis, SoiL Thornton, Gillian Walsh, and Sarah Zapata will be the 2026 artists-in-residence at the Chinati Foundation. Pioneer Works in Brooklyn named its 26 <a href=\"https:\/\/pioneerworks.org\/residency?ref=hyperallergic.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Visual Arts and Music Residents<\/a>.The Joan Mitchell Foundation announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joanmitchellfoundation.org\/journal\/announcing-the-2026-joan-mitchell-center-artists-in-residence?ref=hyperallergic.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">31 visual artists<\/a> selected for residencies at its Center in New Orleans this year. Three independent artists\u2019 book publishers \u2014 Cahiers Manufactoriel,\u00a0Gato Negro Ediciones, and\u00a0Khajistan Press \u2014 received the Printed Matter Publisher Work Grant, supported by the Wagner Foundation.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/AIR2026-Boles-E-HS.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"924\"  \/>Efrem Z. Schupbach as its seventh president.The Park Avenue Armory appointed\u00a0Deborah Warner\u00a0as artistic director.Mariah Keller was named executive director of Wrightwood 659 in Chicago\u2019s Lincoln Park neighborhood.Felix Art Fair published the <a href=\"https:\/\/felixfair.com\/?ref=hyperallergic.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exhibitor list<\/a> for its upcoming eighth edition, taking place again at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles this February&#8230;. and it has some healthy competition, from yet another art fair launching in LA this season. ENZO will take over a 1920s warehouse in the Echo Park neighborhood with 10 emerging galleries from NYC&#8217;s Chinatown and the Lower East Side.Wildcard<\/p>\n<p>Electronic music is for babies! A rave for infants, parents, and caregivers at a San Francisco museum last month was so popular that the institution will host a second iteration. The Asian Art Museum&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.asianart.org\/event\/baby-rave-is-back-jan-25\/?ref=hyperallergic.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Baby Rave<\/a>, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, will feature music below 85 decibels to protect the gentle ears of our little ones, who are as yet unscarred by the sight of the bathroom floor at Berghain.
