{"id":238683,"date":"2026-01-17T21:51:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T21:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/238683\/"},"modified":"2026-01-17T21:51:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T21:51:20","slug":"sunlive-ap-show-offers-kids-free-country-flavoured-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/238683\/","title":{"rendered":"SunLive &#8211; A&#038;P show offers kids free, country-flavoured fun!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Families, friends and grandparents alike are encouraged to enjoy a fun day out full of country traditions with their youngsters at the 2026 Katikati A&amp;P Show on February 1 at the Uretara Domain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want people to know that children aged 14 and under gain free entry into the show,\u201d said Katikati A&amp;P Show secretary Sheryl Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe committee presents the show and each year pays for a range of entertainment and activities to appeal youngsters \u2013 we want families to come along and enjoy it,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>Free entertainment this year for children would include a puppet show, a kids\u2019 lolly scramble, face painting, donkey rides, a vertical bungy, a rock climbing wall, an Animal Magic show with sheep by local animal trainer Bex Tasker, Train rides for under-fives and giant wooden games. A military vehicle display plus classic cars, hot rods and vintage tractors would also appeal to youngsters who love wheels.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said the committee was very excited to bring back the traditional attraction of the dairy cattle competitions this year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The dairy cattle competition, as show here back at 2010\u2019s Katikati A&amp;P Show, will return this year on February 1 at Uretara Domain. Photo \/ File<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese competitions, along with the equestrian events, the Home Industries displays and the Children\u2019s Scarecrow Competition really give kids a taste of rural New Zealand that many don\u2019t see these days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other big drawcards would include wood chopping demonstrations, a mussel shucking event, and Katikati Wrestling Club\u2019s Beach Wrestling event. \u201cThen there is the music on offer \u2013 you\u2019ve got a range of dancing and singing showcases \u2013 plus arts and crafts for sale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith said all the trade sites are now booked out and would showcase agricultural machinery, electric bikes, cars and scooters alongside local charity groups.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of food vendors would cater to all tastes, Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great day out for the whole family \u2013 so please come along!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\" The Home Industries competitions give show-goers a look at another side of country life. Photo \/ Merle Cave<\/p>\n<p>Smith said the volunteer organising committee began work on the 2026 event straight after last year\u2019s centenary show, which 4000 people attended.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want our 101st show to keep making a positive impact on the community by creating memorable experiences and strengthening communal ties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Katikati A&amp;P Show is Sunday, February 1, at the Uretara Domain. Gates open 9am.
