Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/a> is surging even higher up the charts during its fifth weekend in theaters. The Avatar: Fire and Ash release<\/a> kicked off on December 19, and the James Cameron sci-fi sequel has become a blockbuster smash despite trailing behind its two record-smashing predecessors, which are the first and third highest-grossing movies of all time worldwide.<\/p>\n

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to close its fifth weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global box office total of $1.3 billion. While its expected international grosses for the weekend have yet to be fully calculated, a 4-day total of $17.6 million over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend at the domestic box office is helping it hit this major milestone.<\/p>\n

This will see 2025’s Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/a> taking just one weekend to surge past the overall global grosses of three other Disney hits, namely Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion), 2017’s Beauty at the Beast ($1.266 billion), and Frozen ($1.286 billion), to land at No. 25 on the chart of the Top 25 highest-grossing movies of all time worldwide.<\/p>\n

Fire and Ash is hitting its benchmarks much slower than the previous Avatar movies<\/a>. For instance, it only recently passed the $350 million domestic milestone, which is something that both of its predecessors had done at least 10 days earlier in their respective runs. While this calls its ability to gross more than $2 billion into doubt, it is still rocketing up the all-time chart.<\/p>\n

2009’s Avatar grossed $2.924 billion worldwide while 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water earned $2.334 billion.<\/p>\n

However, it is still climbing the chart at an incredible pace. Ahead of its fifth weekend in theaters, its cumulative worldwide box office was just $1.238 billion, which means it is expected to earn more than $62 million over a single weekend that takes place almost a full month into its theatrical run.<\/p>\n

Even if it only earns $50 million during its impending sixth weekend, it will continue to climb up the all-time chart. In fact, it would be able to surge into the Top 20 in one fell swoop.<\/p>\n

That total would see Avatar: Fire and Ash surging past five additional titles, namely Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.308 billion), Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi ($1.334 billion), Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.338 billion), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($1.343 billion), and Black Panther ($1.349 billion).<\/p>\n
