In December in the week before Christmas a person\u00a0died after being pulled unresponsive from the water<\/a>\u00a0near the Waiotapu geothermal area.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

Police launched an investigation into the sudden death, which was treated as unexplained.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The Waiotapu area, a 25-minute drive south of Rotorua, is home to a famous geothermal attraction in the Taup\u014d volcanic zone.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

In February two years ago a man was\u00a0believed to have fallen into a fenced-off hot pool<\/a>\u00a0in the Fenton Park area of Rotorua.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

A person contacted police concerned they had heard someone fall into a scorching hot pool.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The pool feeds into the popular Puarenga Stream that flows through the Whakarewarewa and Fenton Park suburbs, to Ng\u0101puna and Lake Rotorua.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The pool is in a fenced-off area and a pathway leading to the pool has a large gate with a sign on it reading: \u201cDanger. Do not enter\u201d.<\/p>\n
