I am currently on a top-secret mission that\u2019s coming to an end today. I\u2019ll spill the beans about that very soon, but it\u2019s been fun and nice to have a break from my usual routine. <\/p>\n

This mission has been been a reminder that I need to shake things up in my life more often. I am a creature of habit, and staying home by myself most of the time isn\u2019t exactly ideal. So I\u2019m going to get out more this year. <\/p>\n

Having a bunch of concerts lined up for the coming months will help, but I should go do other things too. I need to have more experiences so I have more things to write about anyway. Also, I guess I can justify things I spend money on and write about as a tax writeoff? Even more incentive for me to go do more stuff.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, January 21 are coming right up. Let\u2019s get rolling!<\/p>\n

NYT Connections \u2013 How To Play<\/p>\n

Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT\u2019s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.<\/p>\n

Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don\u2019t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that\u2019s what you have to figure out.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it\u2019s game over.<\/p>\n

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs \u2013 part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.<\/p>\n

As with Wordle and similar games, it\u2019s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.<\/p>\n

Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow \u2013 correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.<\/p>\n

CRIB and PIRATE helped me get the blues after I disregarded CRIB, BLANKET and MOBILE as a red herring of things you\u2019d find in a baby\u2019s room.<\/p>\n

With MOBILE ruled out for that particular red herring, I then figured out the purples. These are things Batman has or uses or is otherwise associated with i.e. the BatCAVE, BatMOBILE, Bat SIGNAL and BatSUIT.<\/p>\n

NEWSPAPER and CARDBOARD BOX then paved the way for the yellows. That left the greens, which were evident enough at that point. <\/p>\n

A perfect game extends my current streak to 326 wins. Holy smokes.<\/p>\n
