{"id":243868,"date":"2026-01-21T05:55:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T05:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/243868\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T05:55:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T05:55:26","slug":"nimtim-architects-uses-colour-to-unite-extended-london-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/243868\/","title":{"rendered":"Nimtim Architects uses colour to unite extended London home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Openings coloured in ultramarine blue were used to create visual connections within this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/london-houses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London home<\/a>, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/renovations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">renovated<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/extensions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">extended<\/a> by local studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/nimtim-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nimtim Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Named Peek-a-Blue, the project by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimtim.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nimtim Architects<\/a> sought to transform the home&#8217;s small and fragmented ground floor living spaces into a series of interconnected spaces for its residents.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288111 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nimtim-architects-peek-a-blue-london-extension-sq_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x852.jpg\" alt=\"View towards snug within Peek-a-Blue home extension\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Nimtim Architects has renovated and extended a London home<\/p>\n<p>Integral to this was the addition of an almost double-height snug at the centre of the home, which links to the newly-added kitchen and dining room extension at the rear.<\/p>\n<p>The studio lowered the floor in the snug to address a one-metre-drop from the front of the home to the garden, allowing this space to be accessed directly from the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288086 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nimtim-architects-peek-a-blue-london-extension_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x682.jpg\" alt=\"Interior view of London renovation \" width=\"2364\" height=\"1891\"  \/>The living spaces were adjusted to sit on one level<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The main concept of the project was to create a new living space\/ plane for the family that reflects the way they want to live,&#8221; project architect\u00a0Pippa Grayson told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The design dropped part of the front of the existing house to meet the rear garden level,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;This created a new living space that was more appropriate in scale for the needs of the family and had a direct connection to the garden.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288090 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nimtim-architects-peek-a-blue-london-extension_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchen interior at Peek-a-Blue by Nimtim Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Light blue-coloured cabinetry lines the kitchen<\/p>\n<p>At the back of the home, the Peek-a-Blue extension has been finished externally in an earthy clay render, which is set off by full-height openings and a porthole window outlined in ultramarine blue.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, inside, the kitchen and dining space have been lined with light blue-coloured cabinetry, paired with recycled plastic worktops and gridded clay tiles that extend through the home.<\/p>\n<p>A benched seating area crowned with a semi-circular skylight runs along the length of the space.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/12\/10\/full-width-house-extension-oeb-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/simple-addition-oeb_dezeen_2364_sq_1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Kitchen and dining room of A Simple Addition by OEB Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> OEB Architects unveils full-width London house extension designed as a blank canvas\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overall, the project adopts a rich and textural material palette of reds and ochres the unites and grounds the new living spaces,&#8221; Grayson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The visual connections are identified and highlighted in the bold ultramarine frames and reveals of these new\u00a0openings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288099 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nimtim-architects-peek-a-blue-london-extension_dezeen_2364_col_15-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Hallway view at London home \" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Openings have been coloured in ultramarine blue<\/p>\n<p>A steel-framed opening connects the extension to the two-storey snug, which Nimtim Architects designed as a &#8220;focal point&#8221; for the home.<\/p>\n<p>Boxy windows wrap around the space and, on one wall, look onto the home&#8217;s staircase as a way to link the home&#8217;s spaces, Grayson explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sense of disconnect that still existed between the spaces and the staircase was addressed with the bright blue punched openings between them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2288102 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/nimtim-architects-peek-a-blue-london-extension_dezeen_2364_col_18-852x682.jpg\" alt=\"Pink bathroom at dwelling by Nimtim Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1891\"  \/>Pink tiles clad a bathroom<\/p>\n<p>The home&#8217;s bedrooms are on the upper floors, where other updated spaces include a bathroom clad entirely in pink tiles.<\/p>\n<p>Other London homes recently featured on Dezeen include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/12\/18\/can-druid-grove-renovation-london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a &#8220;mystical and grounding&#8221;
