The eclipse will begin at sunrise in the Atlantic Ocean; pass over Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Lesotho; cross the Indian Ocean; and finish as a low eclipse from southeastern South Australia and northwestern New South Wales, Australia. Those in the path of southeast Queensland will see a sunset eclipse, with the small rural town of Surat seeing the eclipsed <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/58-the-sun-formation-facts-and-characteristics.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sun<\/a> just 2 degrees above the western horizon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>The maximum duration of totality will be 3 minutes, 44 seconds. However, not many observers will experience that because the eclipse takes place north of the remote Kerguelen Islands in the southern Indian Ocean. The maximum totality on land will be 2 minutes, 32 seconds, from just north of Durban, South Africa. From Australia, the eclipse will be on the wane by the time it hits Streaky Bay in South Australia, just south of Ceduna (the epicenter of<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asnsw.com\/ceduna\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.asnsw.com\/ceduna\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> a total solar eclipse in 2002<\/a>). In total, about 10.6 million people live in the path of totality, according to<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/solar\/2030-november-25\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/solar\/2030-november-25\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Time and Date<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The path of totality passes just north of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mpi-hd.mpg.de\/HESS\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.mpi-hd.mpg.de\/HESS\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">High Energy Stereoscopic System<\/a> (HESS), a cosmic-ray-hunting telescope in Namibia&#8217;s Khomas highlands. The same fate befalls the<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hakos-astrofarm.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.hakos-astrofarm.com\/en\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> HAKOS Astro Guest Farm<\/a>, a remote mountainous escape for amateur astronomers. Both get a 99.9% partial solar eclipse. Between Windhoek and the Skeleton Coast, there&#8217;s a very low risk of clouds, but that changes dramatically on the coast itself.<\/p>\n<p>Botswana has a very low chance of clouds. In the North West region of South Africa, there&#8217;s around a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/map\/2030-november-25?n=%40978876\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/map\/2030-november-25?n=%40978876\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">33% chance<\/a> of a cloudy day. As you approach Durban, however, those odds rise to an alarming 67%.
