Volkswagen New Zealand<\/a> is creating a little GTX family, with the reintroduction of the ID.4 and ID.5 EV-SUVs<\/a> in higher-performance guise.<\/p>\n

The ID.4 and ID.5<\/a>: remember them<\/a>? Launched during the Clean Car Discount in mid-2023, they represented a lot of sales promise for VW NZ… until the CCD was axed and the EV market slumped. The last of them were sold at bargain prices and the models disappeared from Kiwi price lists last year.<\/p>\n

But now they’re back, in GTX form. GTX is VW’s performance brand for pure-electric cars (like GTI<\/a> is for combustion models) and the brace of SUVs will join the ID. Buzz GTX<\/a> in the local lineup. All three have VW’s updated dual-motor configuration, with a 210kW at the rear and another 40kW unit at the front for a total of 250kW\/545Nm.<\/p>\n

The previous (non-GTX) ID-SUVs sold in NZ used a 150kW motor at the back. The same GTX 210kW\/545Nm setup is also used in the Cupra Tavascan<\/a> VZ (the Tavascan V gets the 210kW rear motor only) and forthcoming Skoda Enyaq<\/a> RS (again, the regular Enyaq is 210kW).<\/p>\n

As before, the ID.4 is the SUV-style model, while the ID.5 has a more couple-like shape (better aero and oddly, a larger boot).<\/p>\n

They enter the market at the same $76,990 price – which is actually less than the launch stickers for the previous-gen RWD models back in 2023 ($79,990-$95,490).<\/p>\n

Body shapes aside, the two models have virtually identical specifications. The main difference is wheel size and style: the ID.4 GTX has 20-inch Ystad alloys in silver and black, while the ID.5 GTX wears all-black 21in Narvik style rims.<\/p>\n
