An interactive art and music facility in downtown Victoria is offering free admission to seniors and post-secondary students on select days over the next two months.<\/p>\n
Monkey C Interactive\u2019s Artcade<\/a> is offering free admission on three upcoming Thursdays \u2013 Jan. 29, Feb. 26 and March 26 \u2013 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n The Artcade, located at 706 Fort St., is a \u201chands-on, screen-free approach to interactive art and music.\u201d<\/p>\n It includes displays and stations where people can turn dials, press buttons, step on platforms, and generally interact and \u201cexplore\u201d the displays in interesting ways.<\/p>\n Watch a deep dive exploring the Artcade in a CHEK VIBE segment from 2024 below, or read it here<\/a>:<\/p>\n The free admission coincides with a 1,000-square-foot expansion that\u2019s coming to the Artcade, called the \u201cAlien Lab,\u201d which is set to open later this spring.<\/p>\n The expansion extends into the former Steveson\u2019s Shoe Clinic space, which closed last year after nearly 100 years in operation, and will include new rooms and musical machines.<\/p>\n RELATED: Nearly 100 years later, a Victoria shoe repair shop is closing its doors<\/a><\/p>\n Monkey C describes the expansion as its \u201cmost ambitious yet.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAlien Lab is about pushing curiosity even further. It\u2019s a space for experimentation, wonder and joyful noise,\u201d said Scott Amos, co-founder of Monkey C Interactive.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Alien Lab expansion at the Arcade is being partially funded by the City of Victoria\u2019s Storefront Activation Program<\/a>, and is being designed in participation with Creative BC and the British Columbia Arts Council.<\/p>\n
