Following our previous look at an opening for a\u00a0Senior Manager of Exhibition Design at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco<\/a>, we are using this week\u2019s edition of our\u00a0Job Highlights series<\/a>\u00a0to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a\u00a0Designer at Rafael Vi\u00f1oly Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The position, based in New York, calls for a \u201ccreative, technically proficient, and highly organised designer who thrives in a collaborative studio environment.\u201d Among the responsibilities are to support design production in concept phases, including 2D drawings, 3D models, renderings, and presentation desks, and to produce and coordinate technical drawings. The role calls for proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and high-quality rendering software such as 3ds Max.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The open role at Rafael Vi\u00f1oly Architects offers us the opportunity to explore recent notable developments by the firm. Last year, the firm\u2019s National Medal of Honor Museum<\/a> opened in Arlington, Texas, which local critic Mark Lamster praised for its unifying \u201csublime force\u201d and “uncompromising assertion of abstract form.\u201d The design comprises 102,000 square feet and features a box-like, aluminum-clad primary exhibition hall that hovers 40 feet above the ground, supported by stainless steel pylons that tell the individual stories of over 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients dating to the award\u2019s inception during the Civil War.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2024, the firm offered a look inside<\/a> The Greenwich, a 912-foot, 88-story\u00a0tower in New York\u2019s Financial District. Interiors for the scheme were led by Mark & White, with each apartment creating one of three (Terra, Aqua, and Stratus) earth-toned color palettes designed to match the corresponding vistas at each level. Months previous, the firm had unveiled its first project in Canada<\/a>, with a two-million-square-foot mixed-use development in Midtown Toronto.<\/p>\n

In Italy, meanwhile, the firm recently unveiled plans for a new international terminal<\/a> for the Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci in\u00a0Florence. The airport\u2019s most unique feature is a 19-acre\u00a0vineyard\u00a0gently sloping upwards atop the building, covering the terminal below. The landscape will see 38 rows of vineyards to both contribute to the airport\u2019s LEED Platinum rating and symbolize \u201cItaly\u2019s rich traditions and innovative spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
