The film promises a timely story of family, memory, reconciliation, and personal discovery across generations and borders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMinta\u015f\u2019 debut feature, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/turkish-drama-song-my-mother-727522\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Song of My Mother<\/a>, a story set among Kurds living in Istanbul, won the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2014. Earth Song is set to world premiere in the Harbour section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/rotterdam-film-festival-iffr-2026-lineup-tiger-competition-1236450646\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">55th edition<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/rotterdam-iffr-2026-film-lineup-adds-harbour-bright-future-1236425940\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Film Festival Rotterdam<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/iffr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_iffr_1\" data-tag=\"iffr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IFFR<\/a>) on Jan. 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDilan Gwyn stars as Roj\u00een, who has been living in Finland almost all of her life. The 40-year-old anaesthesiologist has devoted her life to humanitarian work, often at the cost of her family. No surprise that her relationship with her 12-year-old daughter Azad (Zenan\u00a0T\u00fcnc) is increasingly strained, and marital life with her husband Ferhat Feyyaz Duman) is tense.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut now, the family\u2019s complicated past is cropping up. Azad doesn\u2019t know that she\u2019s adopted, and Roj\u00een struggles with how to tell her. When\u00a0Roj\u00een\u2019s\u00a0father Nizam (Ali\u00a0Se\u00e7kiner\u00a0Al\u0131c\u0131) visits from Sweden, Rojin finds out that she\u00a0doesn\u2019t know the full story about her past either. In fact, her father reveals a secret that he has kept since the military coup in T\u00fcrkiye in September 1980. Determined to understand her origins and reconnect with Azad, Roj\u00een travels to\u00a0Kurdistan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe festival website describes Earth Song as \u201ca resonant drama reflecting on the Kurdish experience of dispossession and exile.\u201d Its title is inspired by the poem An Earth Song by Langston Hughes, which is about renewal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMinta\u015f shares: \u201cGiven its historical background, one might assume that this film\u00a0mainly concerns\u00a0Kurdish and Turkish people. But for me, the film also addresses Finland and Europe, offering them hermeneutic tools that might, hopefully, help them understand what has shaped these people, who are now also part of the society in these places.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tConcludes the director: \u201cIssues related to the Finnish, Kurdish, and Turkish contexts layer on top of one another, but\u00a0ultimately\u00a0I always tried to stay with the characters \u2013\u00a0their journeys, their needs, and the things they are trying to understand about themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEarth Song was produced by Mete\u00a0Sasioglu\u00a0and\u00a0Minta\u015f\u00a0for Finnish production outlet Sons of Lumi\u00e8re, in co-production with Anna Blom for\u00a0Jamedia\u00a0Production in Finland and Tanja Georgieva-Waldhauer for\u00a0Elemag\u00a0Pictures in Germany. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cEarth Song is the story of a family spanning three generations, all on a journey toward truth and reconciliation,\u201d highlights Sasioglu. \u201cThe film emphasizes the importance of telling the truth, even when it is\u00a0very difficult, and the responsibilities we have toward one another \u2013 responsibilities we must be willing to accept.\u201d Concludes the producer: \u201cI hope and believe that the family portrayed in the film will offer an opportunity for reflection to people all over the world, regardless of language, culture, or geographical location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHR can exclusively reveal the trailer for Earth Song, which teases some of the family secrets that may need to be addressed and family ties that need repairing.
