{"id":248646,"date":"2026-01-23T23:32:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T23:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/248646\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T23:32:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T23:32:17","slug":"jeff-bezos-blue-origin-will-refly-booster-on-next-launch-of-powerful-new-glenn-rocket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/248646\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeff Bezos&#8217; Blue Origin will refly booster on next launch of powerful New Glenn rocket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"2eaf75bc-1877-4799-a8ee-d73fd212674a\">Blue Origin&#8217;s New Glenn rocket is about to show its reusability chops.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Glenn<\/a> will loft one of AST SpaceMobile&#8217;s huge Block 2 BlueBird internet-beaming satellites on its next mission, which is targeted for late February, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/19584-blue-origin-quiet-plans-for-spaceships.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/19584-blue-origin-quiet-plans-for-spaceships.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Origin<\/a> announced on Thursday (Jan. 22).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"2eaf75bc-1877-4799-a8ee-d73fd212674a-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">That flight will be the third overall for New Glenn, and the first to feature a flight-proven booster: It will reuse the first stage from New Glenn&#8217;s second flight (NG-2), which launched NASA&#8217;s twin ESCAPADE <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/47-mars-the-red-planet-fourth-planet-from-the-sun.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/47-mars-the-red-planet-fourth-planet-from-the-sun.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mars<\/a> probes <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/blue-origin-lands-huge-new-glenn-rocket-booster-for-1st-time-after-acing-mars-escapade-launch-for-nasa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on Nov. 13<\/a>, Blue Origin said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"fcb3d4f1-ded0-4863-9ae7-12d369cb45a7\">The two-stage New Glenn is one of the largest <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29295-rocket-history.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29295-rocket-history.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rockets<\/a> in the world, standing 322 feet (98 meters) tall. Its first stage is designed for extensive reuse \u2014 at least 25 flights, according to Blue Origin.<\/p>\n<p>New Glenn <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/jeff-bezos-blue-origin-launches-massive-new-glenn-rocket-into-orbit-on-1st-flight-video\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/jeff-bezos-blue-origin-launches-massive-new-glenn-rocket-into-orbit-on-1st-flight-video\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">debuted in January 2025<\/a>, successfully sending a test version of Blue Origin&#8217;s Blue Ring spacecraft to orbit. The rocket&#8217;s first stage crashed during its touchdown try on that flight, but NG-2 was a different story: The <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/watch-blue-origins-huge-new-glenn-rocket-ace-its-epic-landing-on-a-ship-at-sea-video\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/watch-blue-origins-huge-new-glenn-rocket-ace-its-epic-landing-on-a-ship-at-sea-video\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">booster landed softly<\/a> on Blue Origin&#8217;s drone ship &#8220;Jacklyn,&#8221; which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>And now it will fly again.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming NG-3 mission will lift off from Florida&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cape Canaveral Space Force Station<\/a>, as NG-1 and NG-2 did. It will deliver a Block 2 BlueBird to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a>, helping build out Texas-based AST SpaceMobile&#8217;s direct-to-cellphone internet constellation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Block 2 BlueBirds have antennas that span about 2,400 square feet (223 square meters), making them some of the largest satellites in space. One Block 2 BlueBird has reached orbit to date, getting there atop an Indian rocket <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/indian-rocket-launch-bluebird-6-satellite-ast-spacemobile\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/indian-rocket-launch-bluebird-6-satellite-ast-spacemobile\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this past December<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AST SpaceMobile has also sent five first-generation BlueBirds to LEO. The company has been flying <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40372-new-shepard-rocket.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40372-new-shepard-rocket.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Shepard<\/a>, a reusable rocket-capsule combo, to and from suborbital space since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>New Shepard has launched 38 times to date, 17 times with space tourists on board. The most recent crewed flight <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/blue-origin-ns-38-space-tourist-launch\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/blue-origin-ns-38-space-tourist-launch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">occurred on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company is following in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a>&#8216;s footsteps, however, in the recovery and reuse of orbital-class rockets. Elon Musk&#8217;s company pulled off its first landing on an orbital flight in December 2015 and has now done so <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/spacex-starlink-10-57-b1069-ksc-jrti\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/spacex-starlink-10-57-b1069-ksc-jrti\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 500 times<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Blue Origin&#8217;s New Glenn rocket is about to show its reusability chops.
