One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries after an attempt to jump-start a car went sideways in Invercargill.<\/p>\n
Police received a report at about 5.40pm yesterday that a\u00a0pedestrian had been struck by a car, near the intersection of Esk and Doon Sts.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018However, on arrival it was found that the injured person had been assisting with jump-starting a car,\u2019\u2019 a spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n
While half in and half out of the car, the person appeared to have \u2018\u2018inadvertently pushed the\u00a0accelerator\u2019\u2019 while the car was in gear.<\/p>\n
This caused them to fall on to the road and injure themselves, the spokeswoman said. \u00a0<\/p>\n
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they responded with one ambulance and one rapid\u00a0response unit.<\/p>\n
One patient, in a serious condition, was transported to Invercargill Hospital.<\/p>\n
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they responded with crews from\u00a0Kingswell and Invercargill stations who assisted with the medical response on scene.<\/p>\n
