Margot Robbie<\/a> has opened up about her relationship with Jacob Elordi ahead of the release of Wuthering Heights.<\/p>\n

Saltburn\u00a0<\/a>filmmaker Emerald Fennell\u2019s reimagining of Emily Bront\u00eb\u2019s classic novel comes out next month, with Robbie and Elordi as doomed lovers Catherine and Heathcliff. The first trailer for the film arrived back in September\u00a0<\/a>and has been skewered for everything from its anachronistic wardrobe to its\u00a0overt eroticism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s proven most controversial, though, has been Elordi\u2019s casting in the film, which drew significant backlash because of Heathcliff\u2019s ethnicity, given he is described as \u201cdark-skinned\u201d in the book<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Robbie leapt to his defence last year, urging fans approach the film with an open mind and saying he was \u201cincredible\u201d as Heathcliff. Now, the pair have spoken to Fandango about their dynamic on set in a new cast interview.<\/p>\n

When asked about Elordi\u2019s casting by British Vogue<\/a> back in December, Robbie said: \u201cI saw him play Heathcliff. And he is Heathcliff. I\u2019d say, just wait. Trust me, you\u2019ll be happy. It\u2019s a character that has this lineage of other great actors who\u2019ve played him, from Laurence Olivier to Richard Burton and Ralph Fiennes to Tom Hardy.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be a part of that is special. He\u2019s incredible, and I believe in him so much. I honestly think he\u2019s our generation\u2019s Daniel Day-Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the\u00a0Vogue\u00a0piece, Fennell revealed Elordi was the reason she wanted to pursue a\u00a0Wuthering Heights\u00a0film. Having seen him in costume as Felix Catton in\u00a0Saltburn, she said she immediately saw him in the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh my God, it\u2019s the Heathcliff on the cover of the book that I\u2019ve had since I was a teenager.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She also defended the choice to have Robbie play Cathy, who she aged up by around a decade, as opposed to the original book material, in which Cathy is in her 20s.<\/p>\n

\u201cCathy is a star. She\u2019s wilful, mean, a recreational sadist, a provocateur,\u201d the director said. \u201cShe engages in cruelty in a way that is disturbing and fascinating. It was about finding someone who you would forgive in spite of yourself, someone who literally everyone in the world would understand why you love her.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s difficult to find that supersized star power. Margot comes with big dick energy. That\u2019s what Cathy needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
