In a new support document<\/a> today, Apple details a new iOS 26.3 feature exclusive to devices with an Apple modem: \u201climit precise location.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple explains that this setting allows you to \u201climit some information that cellular networks may use to determine your location.\u201d<\/p>\n

When this setting is enabled, Apple says that information made available to cellular networks is limited. For example, cellular networks might only be able to determine a less precise location, such as \u201cthe neighborhood where your device is located\u201d rather than something more precise information like a street address.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe setting doesn\u2019t impact signal quality or user experience,\u201d Apple explains. It also doesn\u2019t impact the accuracy of data location shared with emergency responders. It only affects the location data available to cellular networks.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Apple says you need to use this new feature:<\/p>\n

iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, or iPad Pro (M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular<\/p>\n

iOS 26.3 or later<\/p>\n

A supported carrier:<\/p>\n

Germany: Telekom<\/p>\n

United Kingdom: EE, BT<\/p>\n

United States: Boost Mobile<\/p>\n

Thailand: AIS, True<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s how to toggle the setting:<\/p>\n

Open Settings, then tap Cellular.<\/p>\n

Tap Cellular Data Options. If you have more than one phone number under SIMs, tap one of your lines.<\/p>\n

Scroll down to Limit Precise Location.<\/p>\n

Turn the setting on or off. You might be prompted to restart your device.<\/p>\n

9to5Mac\u2019s Take<\/p>\n

This is a relatively niche feature as it stands right now, but the interesting part is that it\u2019s a feature exclusive to devices powered by Apple\u2019s in-house modem chips. That\u2019s the C1X modem inside the iPad Pro and iPhone Air, and the C1 modem inside the iPhone 16e.<\/p>\n

I reckon this is the first of many features that Apple will ship to devices with its own modem.\u00a0The C2 modem is\u00a0expected<\/a>\u00a0for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, opening this feature and others to more devices. <\/p>\n
