On Saturday, the Queensland state government announced the pack of dingoes had been deemed an \u201cunacceptable public safety risk\u201d.<\/p>\n
James\u2019 father, Todd, also voiced his opposition to the move, taking to Facebook to confirm he had received a phone call from authorities about the fate of the animals.<\/p>\n
He wrote: \u201cSimply sad, heart-wrenching information. We haven\u2019t even received the final autopsy report!\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to the ABC, James\u2019 mother, Angela, said the couple stressed a cull was the \u201clast thing\u201d their daughter would want.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wouldn\u2019t want anything done to (the dingoes), they were there first. She knew that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to Australian Associated Press, James said: \u201cWe never wanted any animals hurt. We never wanted a cull for the dingoes, and I don\u2019t think Piper would be supportive of any animals being put to sleep or euthanised because of a mistake that she made to put herself in that vulnerable position.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut on the same token, just to be honest, I recognise for the safety of the island, maybe that pack needed to be euthanised …. but not because of Piper … but because of the way they\u2019ve been behaving,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation director Christine Royan said it was not contacted about the decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the long weekend, Lake Boorangoora was overpopulated, too many people were there, it was just crowded,\u201d she told the Courier Mail.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want a full inquiry into the management of Queensland Parks and Wildlife managing this island,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Queensland\u2019s Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said the decision was made to prioritise public safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware of the initial findings of Piper James\u2019 autopsy. We extend our deepest sympathies to Piper\u2019s family and loved ones,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cRangers have closely monitored the pack of dingoes involved in the incident this week and have observed some aggressive behaviour.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing the initial autopsy findings, this pack\u2019s involvement in the incident, and observations since, this pack has been deemed an unacceptable public safety risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cQueensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) Rangers are currently implementing actions accordingly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no public safety risk during this process.<\/p>\n
\u201cDingoes involved in Monday\u2019s incident will be humanely euthanised.<\/p>\n
\u201cPublic safety is our top priority, and this decision is informed and in the public interest,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
A GoFundMe has also been established to help return Piper James\u2019 body home to Canada.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Todd James took to Facebook to thank everyone for the \u201coverwhelming amount of support\u201d he and his wife are receiving.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt can be so very dark at moments. It truly helps knowing we are not alone in the heartbreak,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe was an incredible human!<\/p>\n
\u201cNext week Piper\u2019s body will be repatriated home back to Campbell River where a celebration of her life will be held. Dates will follow.<\/p>\n
\u201cAgain, thank you to everyone that has shared in the support we have received. Unable to process and replay to all but I know with time I will read and re-read them all! So thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also said he and his wife had been invited to an Indigenous smoking ceremony to be held on K\u2019gari, which he said they would be \u201chonoured\u201d to accept.<\/p>\n
