{"id":254438,"date":"2026-01-27T16:58:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/254438\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T16:58:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:58:18","slug":"juliet-klottrup-captures-the-beauty-of-yorkshires-peat-bogs-and-the-people-restoring-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/254438\/","title":{"rendered":"Juliet Klottrup captures the beauty of Yorkshire\u2019s peat bogs and the people restoring them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"e1nu6\">Now somewhat familiar with spending a great deal of time in these \u201clarge, open landscapes\u201d, Juliet\u2019s shares, she has spent more than a number of years \u201cdecoding them beyond data and through art\u201d, working alongside local communities, conservationists and ecologists to portray the positive environmental impact of restoration, capturing images that can only come from forming a deep connection to people and place.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"bmbo4\">\u201cTime is always important when learning about a new landscape,\u201d the photographer shares, \u201cin order to pay close attention you need lots of it.\u201d Each visit to the moor revealed something new for the photographer; her creative process growing and changing throughout this collaboration with local residents and environmental experts. Paying close attention to methods others were using to engage with the landscape \u2013 from walkover bird surveys to ground-truthing and even drawing as a form of data collection \u2013 Juliet let these approaches refocus how she looked at the moors at different scales. New forms of observation for her tool belt, these techniques \u201coffered an expansive way of understanding the land\u201d as an image maker.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"4bvjn\">The resulting collection of photographs \u2013 decisively caught on the slowness of analogue film \u2013 are \u201can expression of the landscape where data stops and colour, interpretation and understanding begins\u201d, Juliet shares. With a focus on capturing portraits of the people behind the project, \u201cit always felt important to bring the human story to the forefront to show how closely people are connected to the land,\u201d she says.
