{"id":254511,"date":"2026-01-27T18:10:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T18:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/254511\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T18:10:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T18:10:11","slug":"weico-wraps-xpeng-headquarters-around-twin-courtyards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/254511\/","title":{"rendered":"Weico wraps XPeng headquarters around twin courtyards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture studio Weico has completed a headquarters for Chinese electric car brand XPeng in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/guangzhou\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guangzhou<\/a>, China, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/green-roofs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">roof<\/a> that forms an X.<\/p>\n<p>Located in Guangzhou&#8217;s Tianhe district, <a href=\"https:\/\/wei.co\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Weico<\/a> designed the cluster of angular office buildings to house 13,000 of the brand&#8217;s employees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289550 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/weico-architects-xpeng-headquarters-guangzhou-china-_dezeen_1704_col_0-852x1292.jpg\" alt=\"XPeng headquarters by Weico\" width=\"1559\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The headquarters is located in the Tianhe district of Guangzhou<\/p>\n<p>The large headquarters is formed of two angular office blocks that rise in height from the southern end of the site, where the block&#8217;s size was determined by a height restriction due to the proximity to of a heliport.<\/p>\n<p>Both blocks were wrapped around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/courtyards\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">courtyards<\/a> that each contain multiple terraces of varying sizes with large trees and stepped seating areas. There is also a five-a-side football pitch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289554 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/weico-architects-xpeng-headquarters-guangzhou-china-_dezeen_1704_col_4-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"XPeng headquarters by Weico\" width=\"1704\" height=\"1136\"  \/>Two courtyard office blocks are connected via an elevated platform in between<\/p>\n<p>The courtyard office blocks are connected by a low-level building toped by another planted and stepped terrace. Generous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/staircases\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">staircases<\/a> were created along the facade of the main buildings, providing casual meeting and resting points.<\/p>\n<p>Where the blocks join they create an X shape, which is highlighted by the rooftop photovoltaic panels, as a nod to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xpeng.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">XPeng<\/a>&#8216;s name and logo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289566 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/weico-architects-xpeng-headquarters-guangzhou-china-_dezeen_1704_col_16-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"XPeng headquarters by Weico\" width=\"1704\" height=\"1278\"  \/>The roof outline of the two office blocks creates an X from above<\/p>\n<p>Along with office space, the headquarters contains research and development centres, reception spaces, showrooms and a testing centre.<\/p>\n<p>On the ground floor various more public functions were arranged along the north-south axis through the building. These include conference facilities, an exhibition centre, sales showrooms, fitness centre, post office and even a small hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/07\/02\/china-merchants-bank-headquarters-foster-partners-reveal-photos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/sq-china-merchants-bank-headquarters-foster-partners-reveal-photos_dezeen_2364_col_1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"China Merchants Bank Headquarters by Foster + Partners nearing completion\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Foster + Partners reveals photos of Shenzhen supertall skyscraper ahead of completion\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Almost half of the 50,000-square-metre basement level of the main office building contains the staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/canteens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">canteen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This dining area was arranged around four central courtyards that are lit from above ensuring plenty of day light and fresh air fill in the otherwise dark space.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2289556 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/weico-architects-xpeng-headquarters-guangzhou-china-_dezeen_1704_col_6-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"XPeng headquarters by Weico\" width=\"1704\" height=\"1278\"  \/>The building complex gently rises from south to north<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the era of AI-driven smart mobility, architecture is required to be more flexible, interconnected, and experiential,&#8221; said the Beijing-based studio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The headquarter is no longer a traditional administrative office container; it is evolving into a &#8216;super connector&#8217; \u2013 integrating design with industrial research and development, connecting AI exploration with social applications, stimulating innovation, and closely relating to the consumer market,&#8221;
